This happened yesterday (not in the '50's!) on Sunset Blvd. in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles. Does this car belong to a HAMBer? I hope the car was ok.

Looks like they were admiring their dash and not the inclined roadway.

A few more inches to their right and it would have been much worse. Looks like probably very little damage, unless it got into that wall a bit.

    Is that a '54 Merc ?

  5. I think he got blinded by your jacket there, Apenaut :D

Maybe forgot to set the parking break ?

  8. Sad thing is the monkeys on the tow trucks will most likely do damage getting it back up.

Naw, It's just the odd way they seem to park their cars in L.A.

There were at least 5 firetrucks at the scene - one of them being some sort of derrick for lifting heavy objects. I'm not sure if there was anyway the car could have come out of this unscathed.

Stick shift left in third, no parking brake, steep road, I grew up in LA and some realllly steep hills there. Leave that manual in a high gear, as a young guy might not know about since he always had Park. My knucklehead son thought he should park in neutral until we had a little show and tell on a hill, he parks in reverse now

  15. Well, we did have an earthquake in So Cal yesterday - coincidence?

  16. Don,
Where? earthquake or tremer? You're alright? No losses?

Oh bad news bears on that old merc. I hate to admit it but that looks a lot like a Benno situation.

Watched the Plymouth slowly roll down main street by it's self from a comfortable booth in a breakfast joint in Gunnison, Colorado one perfect, crisp, clear late summer morning...

I think you mean leave it in low gear (i.e. first, highest numerically).
Reverse is a pretty low gear.

  26. The govt is testing that super sonic earthquake satellite. :D

When I was little and the San Andreas was pretty active they used to say that anything under a 4 was a tremor. We had a 4.5 hit the city when I was in the 4th grade, 3rd floor of Daniel Webster school, none of us were thinking tremor. The blackboard separated from the wall and the teachers shoulders were all holding it up.

    Well glad you are alright.
