It is Studebakers from me this week. Two '63 Avanti's one with a sport style roof line, the other with a more formal roof line, body mods and Lincoln bumpers. and a '50 Studebaker business coupe lowered with '53 Buick side trim and headlights.

    And away we go!

"We just need to shave another 1.2 seconds off our time."

I've been obsessed with this idea for a while now. I see a lot of Willys gassers. Coupes, pickups, and even a few sedans, all jacked up and hopped up for the quarter mile. But no woodies. I just googled "Willys woody gasser". nothing. It's like looking for a unicorn.

A young Alex Tremulis played hookie throught his school years to visit the Stutz and Duesenberg showrooms in Chicago where he'd sketch the magnificent cars. Duesenberg's Chicago sales manager recognized his talents and paid him for custom body sketches for his Chicago clients. Tremulis was paid $1.00 for a black and white and $2.50 for a color drawing. He would get next-day serrvice from Tremulis rather than having to wait the week or so from the Indianpolis office. Tremulis' Chicago-designed bodies were then badged under the Walker name, Duesenberg's coachbuilder for inside design jobs. This drawing was sold back to Tremulis by Strother MacMinn many, many years later... for $2.50!

    <O:p[IMG]

One of the cars this sketch created is coming up for sale at RM Auctions' Amelia Island sale this weekend. The 1935 Duesenberg Model SJ Convertible Coupe by Walker-LaGrande was built to Tremulis' design drawing. Two additional examples were also built. This one graces the cover of RM's catalog. Coincidentally, the back cover also features another well-known Tremulis design, Tucker #1003. Both just gorgeous!

    ok ill jump in..

here we have a 1957 chevy tailgate, painted 69 chevy hugger orange, with hand painted letters. the pictures dont really pick up the neon colors. its 4500 white neon over the letters, and orange neon for the border.

Some lines we layed down on my 39 at the Hamburg,NY show this weekend. I did the female form in black and my friend Howie outlined it with the off white. :D

Sitting in the rain right now at the March Meet waiting for the storm to pass to bring out the art to sell this weekend. This 8x10 split window gasser was scratched and framed at the last minute and will make it into the show.

  25. The art work is amazing.
Dan, that Kaiser reminds me of one we inherited on our farm from years ago. There was one there that was a Kaiser Travelor that the rear window folded up and the trunk folded down. The interior was leather and wood the best I remember. Those were fantastic cars, but back then you couldn't give them away. Someone stole that one.
    Later,
    Dick

It's been ages since I posted in the Art Show... Not hot rod art, but I'm sure that there are one or 2 fans of The Man In Black out there.
