Any recommendations for buying a "POWER STEERING PULLEY PULLER TOOL"? Specific brands or tool type(s)? Application: Small Block Chevy
For the money its hard to beat OTC or you can spend a lot of money and get the "official" GM Kent Moore puller and the separate install for about $200.00 http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200354072_200354072
For $25 bucks ,you can't beat it...probably same as rental fee would be...and, you don't have to stop and run to the rental ...Plus ,everything I've ever rented was a piece of mistreated crap...I'd vote "buy"
I just did the loan-a-tool at autozone last week for this. You pay for the tool, and get a full refund when you bring it back, worked like a champ. Rich
unless you are a line mechanic when time is a consideration I would not buy one. I bought one when I had my shop and I have not needed one for home in 20 years.
Free tool "borrowing" is awesome for some of these things! And if they are lucky, you might buy something from them in the process. That's the point, isn't it?
If you buy one and only use it once I would say it was worth it to not havlf to fuck with one of those damn thing again.
Don't buy the Harbor Freight piece...no good. Parts store rental is a good idea. I spent $200+ for the nice Snap-On set. Works great, used it enough to justify the buy.
If you are or have a friend who is a machinist its pretty easy to make one. The one I made slips into the groove at front of pully. It's threaded for a bolt to screw against pully shaft. Socket and impact pulls it right off.
I have to agree that i love my homemade tools, but time is a premium and i dont think i would make that tool when you do have loaner programs and you could buy the OTC for about 30 bucks. And its a pretty good tool Just my 2c Rod
