I bought a 1961 Cadillac Eldorado GM factory custom off craigslist

  1. very good very good

when comparing you pix to the b/w every thing is very close ....maybe the center hub on the b/w is a slightly bigger dia at the mid/ center .. but yours is still good and will show well

well after a litttle photshop play laying half and half of the b/w and your new caps on top each other minute adjustments to size matching the wheel the two match very well ... disregaurd the stupid statement above:rolleyes:

My hat is off to you! I was more than a little sceptical when you started the hubcap project, but I got to say that they came out great, especially considering the limited resource you had at your disposal for the project.
You might want to consider having them electropolished if you're not happy with the hand polish. Turn around is quick and they are local. I use them for work. The whole hubcap needs to be stainless and not all stainless materials react exactely the same.

  3. Listen to the HAMB'r...

I can assure you Car Mfgr's are using this technology in moc-up's, and would have in the day if the technology were available... It's cheap by standard fabrication methods.

Every one off part can be re manufactured simply with the L / R side examples you have available, and with modern chroming techniques linked in later posts you can actually have that sweet ride back together better than original at a fraction of the cost.

Far out, that's the solution, they are 100% stainless. Thanks Mike.

The bumper is hung, all lights installed, everything's working.

OMG, the car is looking so good. Nads, I sure hope you have figured out a way to secure those hubcaps to the wheels so no one can decide they like them and want them for themselves.

    Nads,

Best thread in years. Congrats to someone deserving of this vehicle. Have fun and don't paint it pink.

She doesn't look great up close, the repaint from the 70s is terrible, there's waves and flaws everywhere, it's a survivor.

Eventually I'd like to at least give her a good paint job in the right color which is on the lower front bumper, it is such a pretty light gold, it must have been a custom mix.

I bought these wreaths on ebay, they're for an 80s Cadillac wire wheel but they look just like the ones that were in the original caps, I made a center cap and put them in the center of the hubcap, they look great.

I have to second what belair said. That is a great looking car, paint & body flaws or not. Amazing, looking at the bumper/grille/headlamps, it looks like you have earned the right to put your own work order numbers on.

    Smooches^

I'm home, I was placed right next to the 1959 Cadillac Cyclone which was the inspiration for the double fins which first appeared on the 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham and then all 1961 Caddies. This, my friends, was an honor I can't adequately put into words.
