    Hey Jeff,

Glad you had a good time at Grand Bend last weekend. That was my dad and the '33 Willys Sedan "James Boys" you were talking to. It will be good to see a few more "traditional" styled drag cars around the local tracks.....

Mike Waters, original owner and driver, of the 555 car is still active in LSR. Mike is part of the Wilson and Waters roadster team and holder of several fuel and gas roadster records. Mike is a member of the SCTA board of directors and very active at El Mirage and Bonneville.

While we sat at land's end last Sunday waiting for the salt to dry out he was excited about attending the CHRR and the 555 car.

Don Burch, I think that's his name, came by our shop looking for some leads on old parts to help put his "555" back together. He has it at his shop in Canadian, TX. From what I understand, he is restoring it.

Birch's project is the 23 T version of the Triple Nickel, not the 29 A roadster.

There were at least 4 different roadsters (not to mention a Mopar) that carried the competition number 555. The first one is the one involved in this thread (original, blue Waters and Murry machine which eventually became the black Johnson and Morgan machine).

Don Burch is restoring his 23 Turtleback 555 roadster that set the NHRA National MPH record for A/Roadster at the 1962 Winternationals. I believe that machine was always red in color.

That car is pictured in the background of the 2 images below.

Jeff.........to finance this plan, it's only right to sell back to me the 5w for pennies on the dollar. I am the only one who knows how rough that 5w is anyway.
You don't have time to make club meetings or return phone calls. How do you plan to make time to race? ;)

    Jeff,
Don Burch owned and raced the 555 A-roadster around 1961 - 1963. In 1962 he set a NHRA top speed record for his class at Pomona. He campaigned the car throughout the US and if memory serves me well he was a finalist in the NHRA points race during this time.
Don lived in Amarillo when he raced the black 555 A-roadster and later moved to Canadian, TX.
Contact me if you would like to get in touch with Don.

So did this new project every get built? I'd use a bucket t chassis and make it look more like the tony nancy first roadster.......

The best photo I ever saw of the 555 with Custom Car Supply on the hood was one in the 1963 Hot Rod Magazine article.

In honor of your grandfather and his brother, here's a picture of a piece of the box tape / packaging tape that Custom Car Supply used back in the day.

That pattern repeated over and over again.
