I am thinking about getting the bumper hitch for my 55 Ford rechromed but might get sticker shock when I get a estimate so paint might be the way I go,years ago I seen some but it was more silver then chrome so is there any rattle can paint made today that looks close to chrome.

Do a search there are threads on chrome spray paint here on the HAMB. Just remember the chrome spray is paint and only good for interior parts. If, you want chrome get the real thing. :D

I forgot about powder coating it and will look into that first if there is anyone in the area still doing it.

I recall a Gene Windfield video doing a chrome type paint on the top of one of his cars. Could be wrong. But it was within the last few years. You tube? Mike

They used to use ( and may still use ) chrome paint on a lot of the Toyota wheels in Nascar ...maybe look into that .

Found some rally wheel silver in the garage so that is what it got painted with,I know it would cost at least a hundred to plate it and need the money for bills so paint is it for now.

I don't have the extra cash to get real chrome plating. I've used Dupli-Color Chrome spray paint. Not bad. No...it is not real chrome, but the best that I have found. Good on small items.

Alsa has the best (chrome ) paint IMO. You have to lay out some really slick black paint first then shoot the chrome over it.

Where can you have a bumper chromed for a hundred? My last quote was four hundred for a little blade bumper!

If there really was something that looked like chrome that came from a spray can, whoever held the patent on it would surpass Bill Gates in the wealth contest.

Not the bumper but the hitch and it would probably be at least a hundred and cant afford to spend much money right now on non essential stuff. I got thinking since all that is seen of the hitch is about 4 inches argent will do just fine for now, since its paint for wheels its probably more durable then the chrome looking paint.

No matter what anyone else says, the answer is no.

There may be something that comes close, and that will only be when freshly sprayed.

The life expectancy will be very short as will be the life of the shine.

Real chrome plating is the way to go and as they like to point out, also traditional :)
