Kyle Yokum is one of the most humble people I have ever meet. This kid is a master at metal shaping. Here is his story:

"My name is Kyle Yocum I am 24 and just doing the best I can to honor my God in heaven and provide for my wife and little girl by shape metal into custom cars and motorcycles. I have been working on cars since I was a teenager. I started out doing the metal and body work on my own cars and went to the Trumbull Career and Technical Center in Warren Ohio for my senior year in high school, where Randy Hess taught me the right way to do body work, but I always hated sanding and mud work, and I loved the metal work so I began researching old fabrication techniques and taught myself everything from how to Tig weld to how to how to build a complete car or bike from scratch, and I now run my own hot rod shop in Suffolk, VA. I have been called the best shaper around. My father always told me "If your going to do something do it the best you can." and that is how I treat every project. My favorite project to date is a '51 Studebaker pickup full custom. There is more custom fab work on that truck than I can even list including a complete custom bed, and front end."

Stay on the lookout for more of Kyle's work as he will be making waves in the metal shaping world.

Well, he's sure better than I am.

But, the best shaper around? I suspect Craig Naff might come out ahead of him, among others.

Then, he is doing to honor the Lord so I suppose that put him a notch up on all of us who don't particularly do it for the Lord.

I always dig guys doing work with their hands. His work is remarkable and doing it at such an early age is outstanding.

Good story. The man definitely has talent. They should do a reality show with his shop, not this other bs on tv nowadays.

Somebody needs to get ahold of this kid and put him in a shop with some real shaping tools, he could really go to town with some power!

  17. Whether he's the best or not is quite irrelevant, he is damn good, he is talented and he's building hot rods and customs. What's not to like?

He's 24 and been doing this since he was a teenager? That wasn't that long ago.
It's amazing how some people can pick up on something they're good at early in life.
He's only going to get better.

  21. Great future for sure. Lets keep an eye on him..probably learn something.

I think Kyle was talking about the Central East Coast/Hampton Roads area. He's a humble kid and is only repeating what he's heard over and over again in our area. He chopped the top on my 34 Hudson Coupe and did a great job! First car he'd ever chopped. Give him another 10 -15 rears and there's no doubt he'll be in the top 10 nationally!

Thanks, Baileigh! Yup, Kyle is an outstanding car guy and family man! :D Admirable qualities, especially nowadays. Not ONLY does he shape metal well, he has a real eye for subtlety and style. The Stude is just about PERFECT!

Not a fan of the bare metal thing, but with his work it would be a damned shame to cover that truck in paint!
