Outstanding! Quite a few magazine-featured cars in there.

Thanks. I was great to see what really ran and in which class. Had no idea there were so many rear engined cars back then.

    Thanks for Posting the photos,
I enjoyed seeing the cars in the background as much
    as the featured cars..............
    broungt back alot of memories.

Could the '56 Buick have been from N.J. ?
If it was ????? It had twin superchargers, and ran
101 mph consistently. Saw it run at Chester, SC
National Meet, like 1957........But don't remember it
    having Two-Tome Paint Sceme.

    Great Pics, and Thanks Again.

The 56 Buick Century was owned by Dixie Kilgour, one of our club members. It normally was street driven with a McCullough (sp?) blower with the boost turned up for weekend drags. For several months it was street driven with a Crager belt drive GMC 471 blower with two four barrels, but that didn't work well with cold St Louis winters. The dynaflow trans didn't like all the additional power and frequent rebuilds were often necessary.

    Bob,
Those pictures need to be seen. Drags were so different from the pro drags that we have today. I was on that trip to Oklahoma and our group bought a package that included entry to the strip, pits, lodging in the Fairgrounds dormitory and meals in the cafe. The price was cheep enough that an unemployed college student could afford to go.
The '56 Buick was owned by St. Louis resident Dixie Killgore and ran a McCollugh supercharger.
I still have fond memories of that event at age 74.

These are without a doubt the best early drag pictures I've ever seen in terms of the quality and mix of the pictures. Thanks for sharing these.

You know, right after I posted that, I thought "maybe I'd better post the pic, just to stop some half-wit moron using that post as justification for jacking a Buick 4 feet in the air and calling it a gasser".

Another one, Money Olds Special of Buddy Sampson and Lefty Mudersbach. If I have my facts right, one at the '57 NHRA Nats and was the last unblown car to do so.

Somehow my post about these pictures disappeared from the HAMB site. If I can't get it back on line I will have to repost.

I have the write-up in Hot Rod on this car, should find it and add it.
