Yes, option on 51-2 Olds. It required a special steering wheel rather than steering wheel clocks on other makes and later vintages. The clocks were self-winding. The cars that had this option often had an optional compass located in the dash where the clock would ordinarily have been. If you look closely at the photo, you can see part of the compass mounted above the radio.

I had a 51 Olds with the same steering wheel and compass in the dash,if i only lnown it would have been worth some oney i would have replaced it with a regular steering wheel before I traded it.

That's Admiral Byrd's snow cruiser. I posted a bunch of pics and the story a ways back in this thread. Here's a good story about it, very mysterious.

The 66 Chevelle is currently being restored by a buddy in Ohio back to showroom specs. Another buddy got a 66 out of our boneyard and is building a replica of the car as it is in the photo. Cool to run across it here.

They did not outlaw torqueflite Transmission. What they did outlaw was reving engine up to 5,000 or higher and droping it into low gear, because this was the likely outcome.

They were also a factory or dealer
    installed option on early and
    mid'50's Chryslers and DeSotos too.
I don't know about the GM or any
other(?) OEM versions, but the Chrysler
and DeSoto verions used a self-winding
clock made by the - at the time - very
upscale, and high-fashion - "Ben Rus"
    watch company.

Also known as a "neutral drop". A "Gimme another beer and watch this" maneuver that's sure to impress your buddies and thrill the girls.

If anyone is interested, Admiral Byrd's grave site is located along with many other pioneer aviators at the Portal of the Folded Wings, Shrine to Aviation in Burbank, CA.
