Anyone know of a very small alternator that could be used on a HotRod and tucked in tight where it's not too visable? I'd prefer one with a built in regulator and maybe a one wire deal. My buddy has one on his Willys that he got from a circle track guy but nobody knows what it was made for. Some small off shore car I think. A typical Chevy alternator is too big for my application. Grab the Nippondenso engineering ID#'s (100211-606, 100211-635 for this one) and head for your favorite auto parts store. They should be able to c/ref that number(s) and supply you with a relatively inexpensive rebuilt. Or 1987 Suzuki Samuri. In stock at Autozone. Kinda pricy at 99 bucks (lifetime warranty), but they are teeny weenie, 60 amps and come with a V-belt pulley.

If it is a SBC the water pump with built in alternator will work. I know some small Perkins Diesel engines have a very small permenant magnet alternator, as I recall they are about 4" on diameter and a few inches thick.
got a denso off ebay, fairly cheap. got a top notch bracket off a fellow hamber idahodave, he has them made......

Look for a Japanese Chevrolet Sprint or Metro (3cyl 1.0 L) in the bone yard. They came with a very small alt used by a lot of racers. If you have to get one from one of the common parts stores they are over $100.
I'm not sure of the amp rating, but the alternators for a 87-93ish chevy sprint (3 cylinder version) are rreally tiny. The ones I've pulled off have a serpentine pulley on them though. The suzukis samuri or chevy tracker might be the same, but not really sure exactly. Haha, I was too late. Chevy sprint=Geo metro=pontiac firefly=suzuki swift (all the same car) but the 4 cyl engines used a different alt.
Suzuki Samari, auto parts stores carry them on the shelf. Run a battery wire then a 12v ign wire and its done. As said before it comes with a single v-belt pulley.
On Epay the small alternators are called Mini Nippon denso type, 45 amp single wire but a little pricey, over one hundred dollars. Have run one my avatar for 5 plus years.

I bought an 80 amp for a Suzuki Grand Vitara and swapped pulleys. Late '80's Toyota 4runner is 95 amps and v belt pulley. There are rebuilt units on Ebay with 130 amps, but I wonder about that much output in a small package. A search of Denso alternator on Ebay will show a bunch of outputs.
I bought this off Ebay,look under gm mini alt. 60 amp.single wire, I have the brackets made, first 2 pictures are 34 ford, last pictures are model A.
I realize it's a bit of a WAG, what kinda amperage are we talking for a "conventional" rod with typical lights, AC and perhaps a Kenwood system, but not an outlandish power-hungry audio? Would 60amps do it?
