11/32 wrench used on Fords somewhere. I think the Model A's. Can not remember where. Or is it on flatheads? At least where to use the 11/32 has to make you think. The use of 7/16 inch bolts, therefore the 11/16 wrench for the nuts, is pretty common. Neal
Stock SBC motor mounts like from a late '60s car are actually 7/16 and the bolt head is alway they are 11/16 on the nut side as I recall and 5/8 on the bolt head. I used 1/16 taking my '53 Stud suspension apart. Some transmission mount bolts are 11/16 as well.
These must be the same people that market some of the wrench sets I see for sale that have no 11/16 like the 7/16 fastener doesnt exist.
I even have a cut off and bent mono use 11/16 wrench i made to put the throttle cable on my 970 case. i've even borrowed it out!! wow that was 30 years ago this realy isn't that strange of a tread most guys don't own a 9/16 wrench and have NEVER needed one
Those guy must just own a tool box to be cool, but hardly use it. How the hell could you be a mechanic for 30 yr and never use one? I used one to remove the wheels on my dirt bike yesturday....
Maybe stealing the thread but I bought a set of Craftsman wrenches back in the early '60s and it included a 19/32" wrench. It still looks new and I have never used it for anything.
Thanks, HAMBers, for the references. I think this Internet argument has run its course... until someone googles the mis-information on that other board and represents it as fact-- you know, that 11/16" wrenches were created by a secret government agency to lull us into thinking there were uses for it. One guy really nailed the basis of his argument as follows-- To which, I replied... BTW, not only does Craftsman make this wrench for some strange reason, but Stanley is in on the conspiracy as they indicate 11/16" is the standard NUT size for 7/16" SAE here-- http://www.stanleyproto.com/default.asp?TYPE=STATICLEFT&PAGE=charts/chart_23.htm&LEFT=left_cc_01.htm Oh well.
There aren't any 11/16 nuts that I know of. There are plenty of 7/16 nuts that take a 11/16 wrench and that is what he was stating. nuts and bolts are always measured by the size of the shank/thread and not the hex of the bolt or nut. The gent who called you on it is correct. Walk into any hardware store of fastener supply and ask for a 11/16 nut or bolt and see the look you get.
I would be dead in the water without it. In fact i told myself not to buy other sizes untill i get some more 11/16ths ones. Dont see as many at the flee markets.
They are all over Large Caterpillar engine's, like 3508's and even a few on smaller ones like 3406's. If I remember correctly, the nut that holds my brakeline to the frame on my '59 F100 is an 11/16. I believe -10 hydraulic hose's use an 11/16. I use them frequently, not always on cars but regardless, you have to be an idiot to say their is no use for them or "That a 11/16 fastner doesn't exist"
I won a twenty dollar bet once that I couldn't name an American car that used a 19/32" socket. Rod cap nuts on most FE engines. Don't know what else, but that was first time I ever used one (67 GT500)
