    Great clip, Darth! Most people today wouldn't know that Buster Keaton did most or all of his own stunts (he was often the producer as well as the star). In those days before computer-generated imaging, he achieved some amazing shots, thanks to very careful pre-planning and timing. Maybe even MORE amazing that he didn't get killed during a shoot! :rolleyes: (His contemporary, Harold Lloyd, lost poart of a hand when an explosive he was holding went off. Talk about suffering for your art!)

    Any chance someone (maybe Darth or Empire???) can lay hands on the Keaton shot where the entire side of a house falls on him, leaving him standing in the window frame? :eek: One shot, not cuts even! What a dedicated movie star!

    I was in Cali, Columbia in 1987, saw a 37 Ford Fordor with no doors or trunk, it was used for passing newspapers. Every morning It would coast down the hill to the hotel where we were staying the papers unloaded and then they started the engine to drive away.
    There were quite a few nice USA cars to be seen.

    Awesome "Liberty" engine:cool:, was developed in a crash program aimed at developing an aircraft engine
    to beat anything the Germans had. Due to the recent huge success of their Twin Six, Packard led the
    project involving the best Detroit auto engineer and companies. The Twin Six influences in the new
    aero engine include the industry's first lightweight aluminum pistons. (A V-8 prototype preceeded the
    12-cylinder production engine, above.) Though the Liberty engines achieved all goals, they came too
    late in WWI to see much service, leaving stockpiles of affordable surplus engines for postwar aerial
    enthusiasts.:) It's said that Liberties were so plentiful and cheap, in fact, that buying a new one was
    more
    expedient than rebuilding a worn engine!:eek: (Photo thanks to SoonerFans.)

    'back in the day' at Niagara! Growing
    up in the early-and mid-60's in and
    around Hamilton and Stoney Creek
    Ont., Niagara was practically a local
    track...only about a 60 miles tow and
    a quick 'no hassle' back then, hop
    across the border. A lot of local
    Hamilton, Stoney Creek, St.
    Catharines and even some Toronto
    area racers raced regularly at Niagara,
    as well as at 'Kohler Super Boss
    Dragway
    ' (Still in operation but now
    grossly misnamed as the "Toronto
    International Raceway
    ") at Cayuga
    Ont. I'm wondering, ]swi66, if you
    have any pics of one my neighbours
    cars who was a regular and
    somewhat famous at Niagara? His
    name was Danny Newconb and he
    always had absolutely immaculate,
    first class, race cars - first in 1966
    through to about 1969 - a straight
    axled, stack-injected Big Block '66
    Chevelle gasser - "The Street Cleaner
    I
    " - that he later switched from
    gasoline to nitro and match raced
    - and then from about 1969 or so,
    onwards, , a '40 Chev coupe - The
    Street Cleaner II
    " also a gasser and
    also later converted to a nitro-burning
    match racer too. One of the little
    'trademarks' of both "Street Cleaner"
    cars, besides always immaculate
    paint, lettering and lots of chrome,
    was, in deference to their name, a
    small 'whisk broom' attached to the
    rear bumper Despite being somewhat
    famous regulars at Niagara and other
    area tracks circa 1966 into sometime
    in the early '70's, never come across
    any pictures of either of these two
    cars on the net. Do you ("]swi66") or
    does anybody else here remember
    Danny Newcomb and his "Street
    Cleaner" cars? Anybody got any
    pics, or even some memories or
    reminiscences of seeing them
    run 'back in the day"??

  29. Source sez that beastly contraption chasing the Ford is some sort of snow cruiser from the late 30s. Does anyone know any more about it? I looked around the 'net, couldn't find anything about it.
