shipping a 7 gallon moon gas tank

i need to ship a 7 gallon moon gas tank to a fellow hamber. it will be shipped within minnesota. it has been several years since it has had gas in it. i am planning on shipping it UPS. will the residue in the tank be detected during the shipping process. if so how can the tank be cleaned for shipping?

If it smells like gas? No, flush it out. Shipping hazmat is a no-no.

 

be honest about it---what if something did happened ....seems harmless to me

 

Do not tell them there was gas in it.tell them its a car part.That's it.Try to clean it out with soap and water as best as you can.

 

I shipped a tank out of a pickup truck that I let drain and air out for 2 days...they are not too picky, as long as it doesn't smell heavily and that all the liquid is out of it...

 

the tank has been empty for several years. i don't smell anything in the tank.

 

Box it and ship it. Done deal.

 

Box it up, and stick a couple of those stick up air fresheners to the box sides inside it.

If your really concerned put some liquid soap in it and fill it about 1/3 full with water, close the cap and shake vigorously. Repeat twice, rinse, let it air dry for a day(with cap open)...................SHIP!!

Simple, as a UPS employee, if we can't smell gas you're good to go. Box it up and ship it, no one needs to know anything other than "car parts" if they ask.

We're too busy to care what's in any of the packages we see.

Your original posting should have, and maybe still should be, asked of UPS. We've got tons of experts here who really have no idea. At All.

I've had guys ship carbs to me that still had a little gas in them. They got here without a problem so you should be alright. If they ask you if it is "Liquid, fragile, or potentially hazardous" the answer is "no."

 

why open up that can of worms?

[But, "legally", this is haz mat shipment, just like batteries, paint, etc]

 

Legally he is under the disclosable quantity, so he's fine.

One-because only the shipper can really tell you the regs on shipping it.
Two-because if it goes awry,you are in very big trouble.
Three- you don't have to identify yourself, just ask for the data.
Four-sometimes, some people play by the rules.

 

you were not there when the tank was shipped so how could you possibly know what was said and done to ship the tank?

 

No idea. Not my game, so I don't really even care. I just,personally, prefer to be straight up as often as I can. No idea if you did it that way or not, so I can't judge, right? Glad it worked out for you.
