how did you do the corners on rear 1/4 light window ?

 

Time for an update: I'm in my last semester of college and time to work on the kustoms is limited, but I'm trying my best to keep pace on customer's work. Lee's vent windows are finished and the spare frame has been blasted and boxed...new 9" rear axle is ready to go and we'll be ordering airbag parts soon. Planning to run one of Rick Erickson's (Extreme Kustoms in Wildomar) great ball joint Merc front ends so Lee can have disc brakes and better steering. I'll post more pictures when we get farther along on the frame. It's just odds and ends on the body before leaving for the paint shop

Nice job on those windows! I saved your pics for reference on redoing mine. My rear windows are glued in place and I'd like to redo them to go back to opening like you have done. Did you reposition the top pivot on the front vents? yours look like they open much straighter and upright than mine.

 

Thanks, Dave! Yes, the top pivot has been moved on the front vent windows so they open as far as possible without binding.

Here's an update on Lee's Merc as well as a kustom front end on George's '51 Ford that just received a Meteor grill shell, molded valance, and rounded hood corners. Next up will be a Cadillac rear bumper on Lee's '51 Merc...pics soon

Thanks, drdave! I stretched the quarter windows back to their original length after the chop. I think I brought them back about 2.5" after the roof came down and forward as a result from the chop. The upper pivot point for the pop-out quarter window frame was essentially in the original location in relation to the bottom pivot- as they were before the chop. I guess what I am trying to say is the original geometry of the upper and lower pivots was still stock, or very close to it. The hardest part of retaining the pop-out quarter windows was keeping the inside lip/channel section that is attached to the inside window frame itself. Lots and lots of countless hours in those quarter windows! Fun, though

Rob, thanks for the inspiration! I have a question. Molding some quarters and rockers on a merc I am working on soon. What did you do to prep the flange where you bolted it together before welding? Did you just use weld through primer?? Not sure what to do for mine. Thought I would ask you. Thanks in advance. I really appreciate it.

Pig aside you do stellar work. That hood mod if i didnt know any better would fool me into thinkin it was a patch for a stock hood. It all flows so damn perfect. Bad ass.

 

It was the owner's preference to use a '50 rear window...I think they look great, but so does the stock '51 rear window. It all boils down to what you like
