I know . . . no pictures, it never happened, but let me tell you the story and I'll have a more computer capable friend post pic's later.

Yesterday I went to Pick-a-Part, I don't even know why, just to sort of look around. They have a seperate area for older, complete cars for sale.
In there I spot a '64 Fairlane 500 2dr hardtop, so I go check it out.
It was filthy dirty, but to good to be true . . . Black on Black, original paint & interior.
super straight all the trim is really good, bumpers are good, lenses are good, glass is good. 260 / auto. I find the yard guy and he gets the keys, & unlocks it. Interior is really good, one tear on the drivers seat. Buckets with Console! We jump it, won't pick up fuel but will run on starting fluid & sounds OK. I open the trunk and inside it looks like new, very clean, original mat & tire cover, pefect jacking instructions on the lid & the courtesy lights work ! I look around underneath, super clean & dry So-Cal car.
It was to good just to let sit there. There was a price marked on the windshield, I ask if it's negotiable. He say's make an offer and he'll check with the boss. Next thing I know I own it.
Went & got my trailer and hauled it home. washed it & cleaned the glass just as it was getting dark.
Today I went to work on it. Swapped batteries, cleaned the fuel lines, and it runs. Took it around the block, shifts good & stops good too.
It needs more cleaning & the paint is dull but all in all it's hard to believe this thing is this good.
I don't need another car, so now I have to figure out what to do with it.

I always liked the looks of the 64' Fairlane two door hard top.... Like a miniature Galaxy which I like as well..... Very cool Pete.

X2 nice car, nice score. I've always had a slight preference for the '63 Sport Coupe and '64 Caliente, but I would be REAL happy with a deal like that. I love ALL those '63/'65 Ford Mercury compacts, all of them are REAL nice looking cars. Congrats!

Maybe I need to move to California.

Wow - very cool save! Looking forward to seeing photos.

I love '64 Fairlanes. If you decide to sell it, I might be interested.

Pete, I believe you probably have an extra blown Chrysler lying around, you could build one like this, and hit the match race circuit. Note the name of the car, BTW this one was a real "Thunderbolt". Sounds like a great find, I have had some 64 Fairlanes, good cars!

What a great save. How much haha?

  27. The Pick-A-Parts here won't sell whole cars. One of them currently has a '64 Fairlane and a '58 Lincoln in it too.

Nice save. I had a 64 hardtop once. I like the way the quarter windows roll down.
