Paid over $AUD1.50 litre recently, that's $USD5.67 gallon. 3.75lt = US gallon. That's why I went to LPG (propane) in my OT SUV daily driver.

As usual I am the only one that doesn't get it. The fascination with gas prices, that is. I have no idea what gas goes for here. I know the stations that have the lowest prices, and I just stop there. I put $50 in my dd every 2 weeks or so. I did get some change from my 50 before the tank filled last time so I guess prices are down.

As we know from economics class gas is "inelastic", that is, you must buy it and there are no real substitutes for it. People will buy less as prices rise, but they will need to get to work regardless. You could convert to some other fuel, but that is not really a substitute for using gas in your car as you have it now.

Finally, and I think most importantly, gas is a commodity worldwide, so there is little that can be done to affect the price by the individual consumer. Boycott?-someone in a developing country will be happy to buy any extra supply.

Maybe I'm going off when friends are just having a fun comparison, but I don't think about the price, I just buy it.

:)I worked in 2 Sinclair stations in Indiana in the 60s.Gas was 29.9 - 30.9 .Gas price seldom changed but the tax on it did. Then one day Indiana introduced a SALES tax = 4% . So the Station owner taped a printed paper sheet on each pump because being there was already tax on the gas you couldn't charge 4 cents on the dollar. That made making change a pain too. Folks would order . ''Gime a dollas woof a regler'' or
5 gallons or 5 dollars worth with tax included. Loved to hear ''Fill er up.'' All new now .:D

    Another simple comparison:

Gas, when I started driving: $0.69/gal. Minimum wage: $3.35
Gas, today: $3.69/gal. Minimum wage: $7.25

Gas: up 534%. Wages: up 216%

This is a good reference. You can look up prices anywhere in the US or Canada, along with trend charts and other useful information.

$3.65 per gallon in Chicago area. It's really only $2.65; the other dollar is so we can keep all our corrupt politicians in jail.
