Art Richardson of Victorville, Ca. is trying to locate his old Willys Gasser from the 1960s.
Last he heard a guy from So. Ca. had it in the mid 1990s but had fallen to Alzeimer's Disease.
Any leads would be appreciated, thanks, Dave.

Facts about the original SWC Willys sent by Joe Troilo................

A second Willys was debuted around early 1963 by the SWC team.It was painted the same light blue as the BG/S. It also ran an Olds engine but had fiberglass doors, deck, rear fenders and a Cal front end. This became Swindler "A". It had a black interior and gold leaf lettering. In 1964 it was fitted with a Hemi and painted black to accentuate the engine change. Sometime during that year Doug blew a trans, wet the slicks and hit the guard rail destroying the body. The car received another body and at this time both cars were painted dark candy blue. There has been rumors about the black car going to Canada but never substantiated. When the team broke up around 72/73 it had been without Doug Cook since 1968. There was no love lost between Cook and Woods. Cook never raced after his crash in Alton, Illinois and got mad at Woods for continuing to use the Stone, Woods and Cook name on the cars. Eventually the name of Cook had an "e" added. A lawsuit has even been rumored but I don't know that to be true. Cook had kept the AG/S car when it retired with some of it's parts being removed somewhere along the line. Mike Cook eventually ended up with what was left and still has it today. You must remember that as the years progressed it became more about the money. The cars were used as a match racers more than class racing. The name Stone, Woods and Cook will always be remembered as King of the Gassers during the sixties and not for how the team ended in the seventies.

    Joe

Note: During the years parts such as lettered fenders, doors and hoods were removed for different lettering schemes, larger tires etc. Some of these parts were found by others. You can guess what that means. There has only been two Willys cars. Both of them were re-bodied once. Mike Cook has one and Mike Wales and I have the other.

I hate to repost the same pictures but its getting to where I dont remember what I posted. I have thousands of Willys pics, some I have shared and others I am not sure of. I still get turned on when I see a new one........:D

I had a chance to look the SW&C Willys over at one of the HRR events. It's always been one of my favorites and is amazing to see in person. A true piece of drag racing history.

Chicken Picker 1940 Sedan. There is another picture from a few years ago of the Picker at the owners local car show. Maybe someone can post that one.

  25. Oops... Thanks

I'm pretty sure I saw it as a street rod when I was a kid at the Timonium (pre York) NSRA East Coast Nats. I was pretty young but remember the car.

Thanks Kyle, I had not seen those. That car spent a week here at my house in 2011 and for the life of me I cant find those pictures. It was a real honor to have that Willys in my garage! Its the King of the Willys and all Gassers Amen!
    Dave.

  29. Thanks. Are there any photos of it as a custom?

Here are a couple of shots I've taken of the car. Jalopyrama 2006 & Larson's in 2007.

The first picture you posted you see Ron Ladley standing by the open door. Ron is the guy who sold this Willys to Joe way back when. Ron told me he found the car sitting chained to a pole at an old gas station. I dont remember all the details like price, year etc. Maybe somebody can fill us in some more about when Ron owned the coupe.
