Turns out the pressure gauge was reading incorrectly. We hooked up a good mechanical and the pressure was about 20 at idle and 55 or so when the RPMs increased.
I just got a poly 2 piece rear main seal from Danchuck to replace the rope type. 36 bucks plus the ride.
Tomorrow I'll be able to install it, and hope to hell the leak goes away.

I mean every time I park the '46 in the rain, a rainbow grows out from under it. People are gonna' talk.

Oh yeah, I have a new sbc oil pump in the box if'n anybody needs one, cheap.

Nice car. Looks like it is in really good shape. My first car was a 47 Ford sedan. I was always impressed how those cars seemed to resist rust. I distincly remember sitting in the back seat and my feet didn't touch the front seat. It was really comfortable. Good luck with it.

Once again I pulled the oil pan and rear main cap. The rear main seal looked tight as a nats ass, top section and bottom. I'm getting good at installing them I guess. I it the new Danchuck seal in which was a breeze (sorry pic).

Drove it to Portland yesterday and I still have the leak. About a cup of oil in 300 miles.

Next time is pull the motor again and look at the cam freeze plug and the little dudes above it. Those are the only possibilities left. That I can come up with anyway.

Looks like I finally got the leak fixed!!!!

Last time I do think it was leaking at the rear main. That one was cured last go'round with the new style 2 piece seal.

It had another leak, it was at the distributor/intake gasket. Also a little was weeping out of the tach drive hookup thing on the distributor.
We blocked off the road draft tube and the breather. Then blew some air in through the dipstick tube. That was the only place we could see tiny bubbles.

This time a little gasket sealer on the intake and the bottom of the distributor, then used two gaskets without sealer where they contact. Hopefully that will allow some adjustment without shredding the gaskets.

I need a beer.

I've got a 46 fordor up on the lift now. same setup sbc stock driveline.
a little more wiring repair and back on the road !

 

orpan auto, that sounds good. Nothing new to report on the '46 other then it's still on the market more, less.

I just moved to Portland, OR over the last couple of weeks. Living a mile or so from PIR is awesome. Going to sleep with the sounds of the late night drags and all that.

The PIR swap this weekend got me motivated a bit. Found some nice finned Cal-Custom valve covers to slip on one of these evenings.
