They were either .187 or .250" I'll have to check.

  5. Ouch Dan, wish it was not so. Your pops truck is a nice piece of craftsmanship, except for the mishap.

Might post up the Banger porn from GNRS I took pictures of tomorrow night if I have time after work for ya'll.

Dang these threads have gotten short fellas on page count.

  6. I never posted this up during october because I was busy and figured it would bore most of you with my simple crude stock model A crap. Little late but better then never.

Started with this and misc roadster pick-up parts collected over 3 years. Built together in about 1 and a half months to finish the night before driving to CHRR 2012.

  11. The weaker v8 gears in a 34' box, correct 39' top and swan neck shifter with correct ivory shift knob. Usable gears but not suitable for the 283 chebby trad27 wanted to put em' behind.

  12. Pictures speak for themselves fellas. GNRS 2013 Banger stuff I saw and the Carl Loveless Roadster from last year 2012 to this year.

  13. Good article on the Milodon effort. One of my early banger favorites. Apparently the parts run was limited and eventually dried up; did he not pass away suddenly?

Please correct me if this is in error. Old age memory.

I did make this post to the Ford barn ( after searching previous threads) thought the Banger meet might be a better place.

I'm assembling my motor and found the rear main seal area on the Scat crank is larger than stock and will accomodate a small block chevy 2 piece seal. Seems like a good idea but i am having difficulties finding if there is a kit or something to make that work. I did call scat yesterday and they referred me to a guy in california but he just machined someting on his own. I can do that ( spent some time not sleeping thinking about it) but thought a kit would be faster/easier.
It's too early now to call the left coast but i woke up thinking about it.

    Cheers!

BTW, I also have the H beam scat rods, just got custom JE pistons which stick up about .25" out of the block to bump compression withthe ole miller head. Crank is a work of art, drilled for full pressure, I had them drill 7 thread 6 holes for the flywheel. Running a 1A cam, cut flywheel down to 29 pounds and running a v8 clutch with at T-5 behind it.

Have a little sttupid mundane things to do this morning then back ot important things !

    Cheers!

  16. Lazlo,

the rear main seal using the chevy 2 pc is not rocket science.
Dan McEachern makes a kit with the alum adaptors.
If nothing else, take a look at the installation instructions for some ideas.
I also hear that some folks are using the full circle small Burtz seal, just another way to skin the cat.

    Weeks,
Looks like you are having a lot of fun.

I would love to get a chance to drive my car on a dirt track some day.

Thanks! Today i decided to go on my own. using the original seal holder I cast a Blank, got one good one out of 3 and have run out of time for today. Tomorrow I'll see about machining it to hold the half of a seal and possibly get to machinng an adapter to hold the other side.

The block is at another shop, I lost some size as anticipated but it looks good.

tomorrow i'll finish sitting it and cut it to take the seal.

then i'll make a piece to fit the other half in the cap. Kinda fun .

    cheers!

  21. I have had 3 engines using that 2 piece seal and have had to seal leaks at rear of cap at edge of adapter. Rebuilder sealed al. adapter and edges block side with JB weld. Had leaks in that area when pressure checking. These adapters they used at that time were slightly larger than the cap so had leaks at joint.

On my A block I use SBC performance seal, beige color, it is narrower that standard seal.
Actually, now I use the beige seal for both A and B.

    Hey Crazy,

Actually your Dad said that the machine shop did something to accomodate the seal, too late for that for me, I had the block line bored and all allready. I'd had gotten the steel main caps had I seen them. He had not mentioned Dan's products. Still, I'm happier this way, casting and machining things is fun, wish it wasn't " date night" with the Girlfiend, else it would be a all nighter at the shop.

there is something very satisifying about casting things that are useful.

    Cheers! can't wait for tomorrow!

  26. Just a little peak into my banger. Can't really tell much from the pics, but from the outside it looks almost new!

The raw metal in the cylinders appear to be dark gray, as if covered with carbon, but that's the flash doing funny things. The internals actually look really new, with more of a fresh light grat finish.

    What do you guys think?

Cool RPU Weeks, I'm starting the same way and thought I decided on a body style but damit now I want to build a RPU.

  28. TBone69 get whatever ya can on the road and enjoy!

I have wanted to build a rpu since I got my coupe on the road. The utility of it along with the open air appeals here in Ca. Its a total hack job that I scabbed together. Joke between me and trad27 is that what if those parts I just put back together are the last part of a whole model a car that still exists of the original car it came from.

1.Blue Bed came from a truck restoration
2.Red primered tank came off trad27s early 30' pickup
3.The cowl and cab came together and were originally a roadster in a former life that got converted for gas rationing during WWII or farm use.
4.chassis came from a coupe once owned by my streetrodder parts lady then got sold to a hotrodder (Bob Gliem)=model a daves dad, then sold to a traditional rodder who pulled the body and sold me the not ran in 5 years but runs chassis.
5.Windshield came from my good buddy the local model a restorer.

I was kinda inspired to throw it together by purchasing the firetruck cowl sides of "THE MCCORD SPECIAL" from DESOTO at March Meets a little while ago. Well that and TRAD27 has been building his model A chassis in my garage the last 6 months after I sold him a bent ass frame he straightened into artwork. That lit a fire in my soul and you guys here on the banger thread seeing all the cool buildups!

Having fun is what its all about RussTee and Hapydz!

Dan I wish I coulda made a full lap at speed on the track but may have ended upside down like the old Jalopys used to do alot it seems in the books I have haha.

Ok enough rambling, I am going back to silent mode :rolleyes:
