I would like to have some kind of id plates for the switches and indicator lights on the dash. I'm thinking of aviator/military inspired signs that says "Lights" "Wipers" etc. One small sign for each switch /indicator light. Anyone that makes stuff like that? Or should I just leave it as it is?
Out of a '40's-50's wooden boat. Pic might be hard to read, but they say "wiper" and "navigation". Also come in other markers like "bilge pump". .
In addition to the various things a trophy chop can do, there are shops doing laser etching and cutting work that isn't overly expensive.
I owned a sign company in Kodiak, Alaska and we had a pantograph. We made placards like that for fishing boats, pleasure boats, aircraft of all description, SeaLand was a client for their tractors, as were all the canneries and processing plants for forklifts. As suggested, any trophy shop should be able to accommodate you, and the plastic laminate comes in more colors than you can imagine.
I was digging through the junk drawer the other day and found a sheet of self adhesive labels that I purchaed from Aircraft Spruce about 25 years ago. They probalby still have them, although they are probably not nifty enough for that nice panel. I had a larger "Spins Prohibited" placard on the console of my old Corvette, my pilot buddies thought that was pretty cool.
Here's a pair that I designed (made a full sized drawing for them),then had a local promotions company make for me. They did a really nice job,seemed keen on the challenge and charged less than $20 for the pair.
Do you mean there are people that DON'T do that? Every switch plate in my house, garage and hangar has the screws aligned, even on the cover plate for any and all breaker panels. Yeah...it's anal...but it's what to do.
I'll try to get pics, but in my Dad's Pete, I used stainless strips and letter stamped them, used model paint brush (black paint) then wiped fast with a rag...it left the black paint in the stamped area and stands out nicely. But you dash, I think brass would be a better finish.
Ya mean there's people out there that don't line up all the screws ? does that mean I shouldn't have spent so much time "clocking" the caps on my valve steams? but any way man what a dash, I know they make "key tags" or "sample tags" usually brass mini placards (rectangular about 5/8" x 1 ") with a hole for mounting on top, I can get ya a picture and may have a few kicking around yet , p.m. me if interested
With that many gages, warning lights, and switches to keep tabs on, you may be a danger to others drivers on the road.
Just cause they're there doesn't mean you have to look at them. Think of all the clowns that drive at dusk, in the fog or in the rain without their lights on! Usually they have grey cars.
Your dash, clean as it is, might look cluttered if you add ID plates. Nevertheless, high-end ID plates are available from the better yacht and powerboat supply outfits.
