That must have been a great moment for you...tapping into the root of that car. I'm sure the original builder was just as surprised and happy to see the roadster he created many years ago. Did he fill you in more on what happened to it after he sold it, like where it went to, how much he sold it for, etc?

  3. That is really cool. WOW is so similar to the 59' Autorama - That is really cool you went and met the guy. 50 Plus years later. Amazing.

  4. Did he try and buy it back?

That's crazy to even imagine the original builder would recognize it over 50 years later! Very cool to see. He had to share more about the history of your roadster than you're telling us right now. C'mon now.. 'Fess up!

He said that he recognized it instantly....

He brought the pics. I was skeptical to say the least, until I saw the pics.

To know the history of it back to a running, driving stocker bought from a Doctor on Signal Mtn. is unbelievable, unless you heard it from him.

I agree. Awesomer should be a word.

It is Bruce Young's original build, not the Coral Badass we saw earlier.

He is gonna get it back.

His grandson saw it first. He swayed me after the story about how the dash got damaged..... It's still the way he remembered it after 52 years.

I got a ton of stories about how he drove it with his friends and went to see girls....

    More to come for sure.

There is NO DOUBT that's the same car.

So is he gonna buy it back?

This is like a CSI investigation.

He wants it, but.... I just gotta figure out how to replace it. That's gonna be a tough one.

WAYYYY honorable thing to do! What's almost equally amazing is that the two cars are soooo similar. I really thought it was the car out of Tucson, matter of fact when you allerted me to this update the other night I went back through the thread and really wondered if this "new" guy might have been an interm owner of the Tucson car. Just different enough though...

I was sure we had the history nailed down, until Bruce shocked us all with the latest info. We haven't talked money or anything yet, but he has definitely voiced his interest in getting the car back. I told him that if anybody deserves to have this car, it's him. We'll see how it goes.

How crazy is it that it was originally built in chatt, left for all those years only for you to bring it back!!???

    Pretty rad.

Definitely a tough situation to be in..

But if you do sell it back to him, then you could always use that fund to start a hot rod project and build it exactly how you want it. Sans roll bar. :)

If we were to come to an agreement, I'd be on the hunt.... I'm not pushing the issue, because I'd hate to see it leave. I've put a few feelers out, but haven't come across anything.

Hey Kevin, man what a great read this thread has been! Talk about taking a 180 degree turn! I too think its cool you're willing to return the car to the original builder. Not many of us get a chance to buy back a special car from our past. Eli
P.S. No more concerns about painting it pink now huh? :D I was gonna pull up your old photoshop file and "paint" it pink, just to spin things up a bit. lol

    Eli,
I'm about 99% sure now that my car has never been Coral (pink), so yeah I don't have to sweat that anymore. Not saying that Bud's old roadster wasn't super cool, just not my shade of pink... ;)

I would like to see a gloss black with a full '32 hood photoshop though... hint, hint...

We all have "Real Jobs" but we build some stuff from time to time... ;) The shop has been overrun by racecars lately, but we still mess with the Hot Rods too.

To me it looks better without the hood, but I am a big fan of Nailheads.
