Following your build since first post. Love the way you built these plastic lens glasses.

I have a question.
Why did you have to move the hole in the bumper? Couldn't you have made a bracket with a threaded hole or a welded bolt (like you did) in the original position?

 

I couldn't duplicate the correct appearance any other way. The tight space didn't present any alternative's. Comparing the available pic's to the object that needs modification is always the key to getting started.

 

You are doing a great job on the recreation of this "classic custom". Keep up the good work!

I need to say that I'm not accustomed to, or comfortable replying to every comment that's posted. This thread would be heading for the stratosphere if I did. I do want you to know that they're all appreciated.
NOW, let's start whackin' away on the other end.

 

I was looking for a rear gravel shield when I found an ad for some '46-'48 Ford parts in Arizona. On the other end of the phone was a very nice guy named George Beluscsak, a custom metal guy that I'd heard of before. As we talked about what I needed and what I was doing he mentioned that he too was going to do a Jesse Lopez coupe and had the grille that I needed. We agreed that most everybody was going to do Jesse's car at one time or the other and there were probably a few grille's out there that were stashed for this purpose. Anyway, we agreed on a price and the mailman brought this nice, clean grille. Thank's George, it looks like you where right about where this grille was going to end up.

 

How cool is that? It's a small world.

 

Let's do the stylelines on the fenders. There's some confusion about '46-'48 fender's being used. We'll deal with that now.

 

This will be interesting! To me it's clear that Jesse's car used '41 fenders, but I haven't figured out whether it had that part from a '46-'48 welded in, or if it was hand-formed. My guess is welded in.

 

The '46-'48 fender has an almost laser straight line with a long slender end. The '41 fender has a gently curved line. Jesse designed the look and Sam did it in lead. Jesse's styleline is fatter and shorter than the '46-'48 fender.
