I think my 71 Firebird Formula 400 was the fastest car at least in top end that I ever owned. My Chevrolet powered 1960 Austin Healey 3000 went from a stop to "better slow down before if falls apart" speed very quickly!

Mine was a 69 Camaro. My best time was 8:10 at 168mph in qrtr mile.

I drove her on the street from time to time.

My current car, 1990 Mustang is capable of this time, but I dont have the time to put the time into her, to get the time. LoL... SO she is for sale.

  14. So that would be a 460 on nitro, a T body on a flopper chassis?

Would "Vandy" possibly be Dale Van Gundy?

    6 Seconds passes @ 220 MPH is a clue.

  17. I guess the fastest car I ever owned would be a 67 Fairlane I had for a short while that was legal Super Stock at the time. 427 tunnel port,NASCAR crank and rods,2X4s, 13:1 compression you could hear idle a block away.Only ran down the strip once with it and blew the clutch with a missed shift. I was so poor it sat for a long time before I had the money to replace it. Then sold it. Racing is a rich mans game.

    Fastest
1964 Jaguar E Type Coupe 3.8litre with 3 dual Webers competition cams..shaved head..
Would run 150mph top end easily..

My quickest was a '68 GTO powered by a tweaked '70 Ram Air III motor. It was a high 12 second street car that looked all stock, right down to the white walls.

As for the fastest, I once owned an '86 Buick Regal Limited that had 2.14 rear gears and a 200R4 that someone swapped in place of the non-overdrive transmission. My brother-in-law calculated that IF the wheezy 307 could pull 5000 RPM in overdrive with thee converted locked, given the gearing and the rear tire diameter, that puppy could have hit a top end of close to 300 MPH!!!! When that number came up on the calculator, we laughed hysterically for about 5 minutes! Given the car's overall condition at the time, I don't think I would have trusted it past 80!

".......my third cousin, twice removed, on my mom's side, that i've never met, has this Mustang, built by Al Gore, with a really rare Hemi Chevrolet, that is SO fast it'll outrun a fuel dragster. It's sealed in an old nuclear missle bunker and needs a Dept of Interior permit to fire up, 'cause if you're not ready for it, it'll make you sterile. And when he lets out the steam powered, twin pedal clutch it causes the Earth to slow down its rotation. But it's not runnin' right now, the battery's dead......"

I read about it on the Internet. BON JOUR!!

Out of curiousity what was or is your wheel base? In the basement I have blueprints for a MOPAR powered Altered that I did back when I still worked on the board.

The guy was going to use a T body. He wanted it to be 102" and he said he was shooting for 200+. I don't know that he ever built it. I told him that I thought that he probably wanted a little longer wheel base than that.

Quickest- 69Z 10" slicks, 4.88s, Dixon tuned 302, 12.60s, respectable street car back then.

Fastest- 69SS Chevelle 402/T400/3.73 ran 135 along side my buddy in his '74 Z with airplane gears. After I thumped him 3 for 3 in the quarter, he insisted he could top end me, if we let 'em eat. Young & stupid we was...

1955 Ford Fairlane fitted with a 390 big block, no power brakes drums all round,no power steering.Great fun ( until you wanted to stop or came accross the slightest bend ) I miss that car life was simpler back then.

When I had my '67 E-Type roadster one night wanting to open it up I hit a speedo indicated 150+ on I-95 north of Philadelphia when suddently the center latch of the top popped open and the sudden air pressure surge and noise almost had me dump in my pants thinking the whole thing blew up. Seeing all was OK I relatched it and did it again. That car felt stable even at that speed.
