Who would you guys recommend for a rolling 32 chassis to go under a 30 A Coupe? What are the experiences you've had? Getting ready to start a project going this route and am sure you guys have opinions on this or can point me to a thread that talks about the different manufacturers and the good and the bad. Thanks all, Jason
If you want a 32' frame I have used JW and Shadow Rods frame rails. I have had really good results with both.
A second for Gary Maxwell at Blackboard Hot Rods. He made me a frame for my 30 coupe to fit my engine and trans combo. Very nice work.
A third recommendation for Gary Maxwell. Excellent frame jig and tig welded cross members. Check out his Blackboard Hot Rod's web site.
. Try Jo Kerr at JoKerr fabrication in Indy. He does a mean chassis and is resonable. Check my build thread in my signature to what he is capable of. My chassis is a little over-the-top, but he can build whatever you want. Also check out Jo's Model A and the '29 sedan he is just finishing. His website is Jokerrfab.com. .
Lobeck's V8 shop (just a hobby rails) in Cleveland, Oh. if they are still in business, after Barry's death.
Kiwi Konnection are nice chassis and Duane is excellent to deal with. Plenty of his chassis down here.
Can try us here in cincy...hit my profile page for dropped axle productions website link... Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Yet another vote for Gary Maxwell (who coincidentally also did all the Kiwi Connection frames for, I believe, 9 years) Marcy
Kiwi Konnection, again Duane is great to deal with and top quality products from his California Roadster Co if you need other stuff.
Guys, I just wanted to get the word out. Dan Tesar (who ran the frame shop for Barry), and myself have opened our own shop. Precision Hot Rods and Fabrication, Inc. in Macedonia, Ohio. I'm not going to turn this into self promotion, but I wanted to let everyone know there still is a complete Hot Rod and Chassis Shop in the Cleveland area. Thanks, Larry
Just go straight north to Cornhusker's Rod & Custom! Gary is a really a great guy and frame builder/old school hot rodder that really knows his stuff. http://cornhuskerrodandcustom.net/Pages/home.aspx He did my 32 roadster..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=332610&highlight=32+spitfire 32 Spitfire 32 Spitfire
I had Heinzman's in Phillips, Nebraska build the one for my 30 Coupe. I am very happy with it. John is easy to get along with.
I am sure all of these guys build a very nice chassis, possibly to your specs, but Cornhuskers rod & custom is possibly the closest to you and I'm sure very capable.
Gary at Cornhusker Rod and Custom built us a '32 chassis pinched for an A, and an A chassis, both with hairpins up front with 4" dropped axles, 3.50 posi 9" with transverse springs and ladder bars. Very pleased with his work, can't wait to get to building on them. Each chassis is getting a 1930 Model A Coupe. After dealing with Gary at Cornhusker Rod and Custom, I highly recommend him!!
