The factory rear bumpers are pretty hard to come by, especially in decent shape. Not impossible, but might take a bit to track one down.

Rocky, your buddy's S-10 swap is one of the better looking swaps I've seen from what I can tell. Most trucks use axles with track widths that are too wide. But that one looks like it has a great stance to it with some nice wheels and tires in the right place. I more into just keeping factory frames myself, but out of curiosity I would like to see some more info. on that if you have any.

I see a lot of these trucks without rear bumpers; did they al have them from the factory or were some sold without?

 

They were an accessory and most seemed sold without. I think local made ones like yours were more common. I guess people wanted big beefy bumpers back then verses spending money on the more 'decorative' factory ones.

If vintage Chevy or Ford ones are pretty easy to find, maybe use one of those instead. Honestly, the factory Stude ones seem a little wide to me as they stick out enough to help protect the fenders I guess. But, that makes them seem to be too wide for the rear of the bed. Looks a little clunky. It could be chopped of course. But then to spend some decent bucks and time finding a good one and then chopping is might be a bit much. A simple Chevy one, maybe even chrome, might be nicer.

Or find a vintage one that is aged to match the patina on your truck so it doesn't look like a new part stuck on an old truck.

Your a lucky man to find a woman that has a good head on her shoulders. The only women I meet are in the clouds. GREAAAAAAAAAAAAAT looking Stude. I pulled a '57 Transtar out of some woods here in Arkansas for $250 and got a free '50 Stude motor and OD tranny from a fellow hamber. I'll be following your build for some inspirational motivation.

Sweet truck, BTW. Wish my wife cared that much about old iron, might go over better if I'd actually gotten her '65 Mustang on the road within two years of the target date.

Working on the daughter, though.

 

Groucho's old shop truck is back in his shop for repairs. He sold it awhile ago.

It's on a complete '65 Olds 442 chassis with engine and trans.
You guys make me want to get a truck now (sigh).
