What part is this, Is it from a Model A

Got this project I am working on, its a 29 Model A,
found a strange looking piece, I have no clue,
This part was found under a bunch of stuff in the car,
I can only guess what it is,
figured this would be easily identified by someone here.
Alright so what is it for and what is it called?

 

It is the front guard support.

X 2, it is for a early 28/29 model A, later models had pressed metal.
In MHO they are the better ones to have.

 

looks like a fender iron, but mine are stamped steel.(1930) those look to be forged like a model "t".

 

Yes early 28 front fender bracket the two holes halfway up top are headlight bar attachment.

28 fender brace and headlight bar brace,I liked this better then bent steel ones Ford used later. Used the lower part bottom to first head light bar hole as my head light stand[after bending with heat the hole too level and drilling it out a little] on my 28 roadster back in 1959,there were no fancy alum headlight stands that I know of at the time and I don't think I would of done it any def if I had.

 

Its a 28- early 29 front fender bracket. Does the outside hole have a square or rounded end? If it is square it would be early 28 which about doubles it's current $15 value. Rod

Yes!!! That is what you have here. A few more pieces and you can build a nice 1929 Ford.

 

Got those on my AR 28, which was built in 27

 

For the record & and future Flea Market Sales,they did make the forged bracket in early 1930, the distance from the frame mount holes to headlight bar holes differ. Bob

 

Exactly, and another variation represented here. The black one on the left is the standard 28-29. The middle 2 are early 30 pickup (same fenders as 28-29 pickups, but the lower bolt boss on the brace is thinner). The one on the right is early 30 passenger car. Rod

Those braces were used into early 30 models. My A was built in
April 1930 and it has this type.

 

thanks a lot guys,
I knew it would be simple for the experts,
only have one though,
may not be needing it but time will tell,
it has the rounded hole not square.
might see it for sale in the classifieds in the near future.
Now I know what to call it,,

 

1930 - early 31 front fender brace ..............

 

So I look under the front fenders and expect to see a match to this one,
under one fender there is one exactly like it,
but on the other side is a stamped steel one,
hmmmm...

 

stamped steel is late 1931

 

There were some stamped braces in 1929 also. The early 30 AA truck had a stamped brace that had a seperate gusset on the frame mounts. The other early 30 braces I pictured above were superseeded by another style stamped brace with some additional gusset stamped into them at the frame mount. In all there were atleast 8 versions of the front fender braces. Rod

 

"The advent of the '29 models marked the beginning of a progressive replacement of the forged body, fender and lamp brackets with stamped steel replacements. Until June of 1929, there was often a mixture of both forged and stamped running board brackets on the same car, for instance!" (Taken from the book "How To Restore The Model A Ford" a Clymer Publication, copyright 1961.
Of course, everyone knows that Henry continued to use the left over parts until they were all gone... I have some left over '29 parts on my '30 model...
