Apologies if this has been posted, but I've not seen it anywhere.

It looks like a small block Chevy to me, but get a load of those heads? There's one head on the floor to the left. Anybody know what motor it is?

    1st HYBRID...........hehehehe.....i just had too

  4. Whatever it is, it looks like it is a reverse flow engine.

    I like it!!

BTW, check out that offset quickchange rearend in the background

  5. Whats going well on is they ground a custom cam and are feeding the intake to the exhaust ports with two blowers. Could tell you for sure what engine that is.

On second thought, it looks like the exhaust is exiting under the blowers. On the head you can see the intake and exhaust ports on the same ( outboard) side of the head
    So that's some weird stuff

Definitely waiting to hear an answer to that question - I mean, I can see what's going on, buta few things are confusing me - intake ports are now on side with exhaust ports?, custom-made valley cover with breathers. For sure it is an interesting exercise in full-tilt engine modification.

Really strange. Looks like somebody was seriously into experimenting. I don't think that is a sbc though, but could be wrong.

That looks like the Pontiac engine Mickey Thompsom was working on.

Blowers probably running the same ratio BUT they swapped pulley sizes. Motor in mock up stage hence the "C" clamped motor mounts. Drivers side head blower combo looks higher than the pass. side. Idler pulleys not made by the same guy?

If you look at the head on the floor. You can see all the ports are on the outboard side.

One blower is higher so that the same belt length can be run. It will be different offset because blower drive snout is off to one side on the blower.

Pretty sure you nailed it right there. About '61 or '62 Mickey had a dragmaster framed rail that musta had velcro engine mounts in it, 'cause every month he was featured in Hot Rod testing some other combo. This looks to be one of them.

  18. It looks like the idea is to put all the pressure from one blower into four cylinders instead of eight. Would be harder to try to do that with the ports in the normal position. And it does look like a Pontiac block with all cooling provisions removed or blocked off.

Check out the burst panel/pop off plates between heads and blowers.

The tall breathers don't look like any M/T breather I have ever seen but maybe one off like the heads? If the heads had VC we would know the mystery.....................

    Where's the mag?

Are the blowers counter rotating? The blower drives seem to be set up on opposite sides.

What about the rollers (or whatever) just above the blower intakes.

Looks to me like someone couldn't fit enough blower between the heads.

But why didn't they just swap the intake/exhaust and run the exhaust straight up?

    Lots of work on that!

Definitely not a small block Chevy. The block is totally wrong for that. It may be a Rambler motor as I think that they had that curved end on the valley on one of their blocks.
The head that is on the ground to the right of the car shows what they did. The intake ports now come in from the outside between the exhaust ports. Not sure why you would want to go away from a cross flow configuration and hang the blowers that far out.
Both blowers are the same height relative to the heads but due to the fact that the drive pulley is on the left side of the blower (when mounted the conventional way) the drive package is asymetric.

I guess that Tnomoldw got it right while I was typing.

A lot of inline engines have the exhaust and intake on the same side of the head, I wonder if those heads weren't sourced off of some kind of inline 4 cylinder or a cut down straight 6 of some kind. Pretty wild engineering.

You pretty much nailed that one, louvers, but look at the picture, he was actually using C Clamps. :D

Almost looks like something Mickey Thompson would have built.
Maybe it was to give the driver a better view of the road...:D

    I wanna know too.

  30. I see no spark plugs either. But with a single blower on each bank the final compression has to be ridiculous, it might fire just from that if you can spin it fast enough, like how a diesel works.
