After years with out a project I searched a few months for a unibody ford tuck picked this one up for 800.Plans are MM2 front end Z the front so the truck will lay with air ride.4 link rear step notch disc brakes.302 Ford .30 over roller motor.c4 trans. What ever else will come with putting it together. I have made a bit of progress. So here goes.
Hope to start boxing the inside of the frame this week then on to the back. And a pic of the truck. Jake
Which companies MM2 kit did you use and were you happy with the way it fit when you did the install? I have been trying to decide what to use for a front suspension on a uni that I am building for my son. I was looking at a dakota kit from industrial chassis.
There seam to be plenty around to pick up start looking now because I am sure you will look at several lol.
Supreme Hot Rods you can find them on evil bay i bought only the cross and hats from them.Yea fit is nice no issues. But after I box the inside of the frame I will gusset down the side to the cross as this one fits totally underneath but that makes for a no issue instal. Jake
Haven't really done shit but did get some new rollers they are going to get white paint in the centers and chrome 48 Vintiques ford caps. Jake
Those front wheels are obviously not going to mount as high up as you have them sitting. As pictured they will be off the ground when the truck is on the ground
If you put a stright line off the body as if it were the ground that is with in mabey 1 1/2 2 in of where they will sit all the arms spinal ect is on the truck in that pic I had to take off the batt tray as it was in the way. Jake
Here is my unibody, it has stangII etc, kinda wish It was Z'd like yours a bit. I'd like it about 2" lower in front and 1" rear. Your gonna have a cool little truck when finished!
Your truck looks very nice. There is definitely such a thing as too low and I think the OP is going to find that out with the way it has been mocked up.
The body on these trucks sit with in 1/2 of the frame using a stright edge off the body that pic is really close to where the wheel will sit mabey its the pic makes it look off not sure. So sitting on the frame is how I want it to sit. Jake
The frame sitting on the ground is what you will end up with for sure. I take it you will airbag it so you will be able to actually drive it. That's fine if thats what you are after, not my cup of tea. I don't believe any part of a vehicle should touch the ground when a tire or 2 go flat. Never mind a hydraulic or air bag failure. Scrub line is the old school of thought that has guided me in the past.
Yes it will have 4 wheel air ride a tire going flat will not be an issue. If you set up the air bags rite and keep an eye on them they just don't blow out like anything else you need to keep up with them. Yea Some guys will keep the frame/ body from touching in case of something happening I have had trucks channeled on air ride befor not my first go around.I am not worried at all about it I would be more worried driving around a two seat roadster with tube style tires. Jake
Love them Unibodies. My first car in high school and college was a 1962 unibody shortbed. Unfortunately, the driprails over the doors were rusted through and the body was thrashed from it also being my older brother's first car.
Got a few things done today ,got the Z boxed got the lower arm tubes and gussets welded up.Made some lower arm plates and welded them up.and got my cups cut ready for the bags. Jake
