    Finally figuring out computer,here's some pics. of 55 Chevy 150 I unburied couple years ago,23k miles,six stick,original paint,off road since 1963! Had to do extensive cleaning,brakes,exhaust,rear springs,tires,gas tank and lines.Would like to put big block in it but not keen on hammering firewall,might do small block,4-speed or do the easy thing and just leave it alone.Later, SteveO/Dummy

  2. Wow, a black 150, nice. Myself, I'd do an sbc, three ducks and leave the tree shifter and dog dish caps.

    someone, danchuk? makes mounts that move the BB forward about 2", so you don't have to modify the firewall

    I need to look in more barns!

    If I could wish to find a nice barn find car, the 55 Chevy is at the top of my list.

  8. I'd just put a set of Fentons on the six, find an overdrive, lower it a bit and drive it. They're only in that condition once.

    I had a 150, stock 265 & 3 speed. Had it for 10 years and sold it. Dumbest thing I ever did.

    Thats an amazing car, please leave it alone if it's original. You'll regret it if you dont.

  26. It's true that they are only original once, but;
    I was raised on those old sixes and they are boring! There are ways to enjoy the car without cutting it up. (And, as a very knowledgeable friend says, those tri-fives handle like pigs with a big block over the front wheels.)
    Personally, I'd take a 283 block and go an 1/8" over (or start with a 327 block) and use a 283 crank, shoot for about 10:1, add a pair of camel humps (but not necessarily with the big valves), three Strombergs set up progressive, a replica Duntov solid cam, and a Saginaw 3-speed (synchro first gear, preferably with overdrive), and leave it on the tree (a buddy of mine calls it "bolt action"). Paint the motor Chevy orange, a pair of finned valve covers that say Corvette, Headers and a nice set of duals, 2 1/2" to the mufflers and 2 1/4" out.
    I think that's the best looking '55 I've seen in a LONG time!!!
