Too busy working on the real thing... I do wish I could find a Snap-Tite version of Daniels "T'Rantula"

You know there's a weekly model car thread, right?

It seems like a hobby that is fading away. Nothing like the 60s thru mid 90s.

Revell just released the 50 Olds and the 57 Ford, we had about 300 models show up for a contest at the last Good Guys in Scottsdale AZ

  9. Been to busy to work on any, but I have bought lots lately. My brother and I were planning some model building days while were off for the winter. We want to enter a show or two.

Here's a '41 Willys coupe that I've been working on. Finished the engine the other night and the body went into the paint shop yesterday. First model car that I've worked on in decades. Winters are long in NW Ohio and I recently retired so it won't be the last!

  11. Of all the unbuilt car models I still have, my boys have never shown an interest in building any of them. I guess when I retire, I'll finish them. You guys are building some nice cars.

  13. I built this one about 15 years ago. Used to love building model kits. Hands don't work well enough anymore.

i dontknow what happened but i used to love to build models.spents hrs every nite doing it.had boxes and boxes of extra parts.paint, all the goodies to build them. then one day i just stopped. sad part is i dont miss it all that much.ive been lookin at everyones builds here (models) and i think hell i was that good. but i never seem to get up the energy or set time aside to build one.but all of you who are still doing it ,you all are GOOD!!

I'm 29. I remember as a kid (7-8)I used to cut grass for the neighbors at a very generous $20 a yard. The very minute I got cleaned up after finishing a yard I would haul ass on my bike to the local Wal-Mart and pick out a new model. I didn't save a penny! Models burned a hole in my pocket. If I cut 3 yards in a day that was three models and the required paint that night. If i had a buddy staying the night with me we would each get a different model and swap parts to see what we could come up with. I have an original mini cooper with a top fuel cage, engine and wheels/axles from one of those nights. I still have over 150 of the models I built in boxes in my shop.

Back then they had an entire isle dedicated to model cars alone, and another half an isle to model rockets. Now, not one model available. At least in my store. Very sad, to me. I have to go to a hobby shop to get one now... which is bad. Mostly because they have trains, planes, tanks and all kinds of other expensive shit that I MUST HAVE.

I must admit I havent touched one in over 20 years, but last week, I was dragged to hobby lobby by the wife, and found a full isle of monogram and revell models,
Then I saw the price tag 24.95 for the same black 55 chevy, clear hood scoop gasser that I remember building as a kid. I remember buying these kits for $5 each. WOW Im getting old and cheap.

    Godspeed

  22. The problem with model prices is that models are just regurgetated oil......so oil is expensive?........so is models......unfortunately tho' relaively speaking the prices are in keeping with what was about 50yrs ago.......still I try to fight the good fight..............lol............ I opened Scale Automobilia, www.scaleautomobilia.com.au 16 yrs ago specialising in nothing but plastic cars, truck, bikes & planes.........no r/c,barbie dolls,no trains, games, figures, ships, space etc...........its a battle, lol............anyway checkout the "Models We Have Made" page link on the homepage........there a few there........and I still have the 1:1 scale cars too..........regards, andyd

I put this together in 1959. Don't ask me how I remember the year but I do. Haven't messed with models since then. Looking at the prices here I don't think I will be building again anytime soon.

  25. ive got a boat load of unbuilts in my basement just picked up the new 50 olds kit and 12 of the 57 ford kit (yes 12 of them)and 1 of the reissued 69 hurst olds kits

been working on a 1/8th scale 32 for the last couple weeks of days off

in the summer i tend to spen my time outside in the garage in the winter its model building time i usually finish 10-12 in a winter unless the weather is warmer

its sad i have a hobby shop right up the street from me i have more model car kits then he has in stock he caters to the r/c guys and the train guys (guess he has to go where the cash is) but he has slowly started getting in more car kits

at the hobby lobby here for the lost couple of weeks theyve had thier model kits on 25% off i used to buy them at hobby lobby when the sold them at 50% off thats how i accumilated all my 1/8 scale 32's

I hope my wife doesn't see this thread, she tell me to get rid of them, these guys might want 'em....I've got a few left from my younger days at which I had accumulated 350+. They lined the entire basement wall at my mom and dads house. I even won 1st place in6th grade science fair with a service garage/junk yard model scene. I'm not sure how many are left, haven't looked at them in about 15-20 years, maybe should go dig out whats left and have a "going out of business" sale!!! Old retired scale model junkyard for sale!!! Sure wished my son would have wanted to get into them but electronics ruled his generation..... Lot's of killer looking rides here guys. Thanks fer postin.

Ok I've got a question for you model guys. I've got a Big John Mazmanian willys kit I was building and I fubared the frame. Note to self don't put freshly painted frame close under a work light to speed drying time :(. Anyhow this kit is out of production I've tried finding a replacement frame or kit online no luck yet. Yall have any ideas?
