1940 Mercury restyled by Barris Kustoms for Al Andril of Bell, California in 1947.
Al sold his Merc in the early 50's to Malibu surf pioneer Dale Velzy.
It was last seen doing duty as a surfboard transport before dropping out of sight.

I had some old 8mm movies of the OK. nats then, but I donated the 3 min. roll to Greg Sharp at NHRA museum in Pomona about 5 years ago, I presume they still have access to the history.------Don

The Varsity was at one time (and may still be) billed as the world's largest drive-in restaurant. It is still in business (here are a couple of more recent pictures).

Great pic, Rocky. "Skydog" with his Gibson Les Pauls. One of the BEST g'damn
groups EVER! F-in-A right! My new wife and I were both lost a while when he
got killed in '71. (Thank God for Dickey Betts; makes missing Duane not hurt
as bad! And, if it still hurts, I play some Tommy Bolin or Stevie Ray.;))

Keep posting Eddie. There's no way of knowing if a photo was already posted unless it was fairly recently. It's impossible to go back and check. It would be interesting to know exactly how many times a photo has been posted on this thread. I'd guess better than 75% of them have been posted more than once and the more popular ones have been seen 4 or more times. Would be an interesting stat. No worries though it's all good.

Calimesa Pharmacy, Calimesa, CA. The building is still there but not in use any more. The owners son had a '63 Impala with the first 327 I ever saw. I lived about 3 blocks from this site from '56-'69. Used to spend hours looking at the car mags. in there.

Hey, Eddie. As 327 said, it's all good. You put a lot of heart into the thread and obviously get Dog's general theme, so stay with it.:D You possibly missed when the HAMB moderator, MetalShapes, settled the issue about repeats. He said almost EXACTLY what 327 just said:

Repeats, NO PROBLEM.;) The mods mainly want the thread to run smoothly. But any POLITICS, RELIGION or DRAMA, then there's a problem.

I've been bummed, and I figured maybe others were too. So, maybe we should see some vintage
material, even if only for a temporary pressure-release from the events in Connecticut. Obviously,
all HAMBers hold folks there in there hearts and prayers. 'nough said for a vintage thread.

1949 - NASCAR stages the first Grand National event at the Charlotte Fairgrounds. Cool vintage moment, thanks to PoorWilliam.

Somewhere between the look of Lana Turner and Marilyn Monroe was Mamie Van Doren.
Discovered by Howard Hughes, she got her start in RKO films and, for a South Dakota gal,
didn't do badly at all in the synthetic world of Tinsel Town! Today, she and her husband,
Tom Dixon, live in California where she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well
as her own line of fine wines. In her autobiography, she claimed many beaus in her youth.
The photos and magazine covers here are thanks to the site, "Who's Dated Who."
(Should be "Who's Dated WHOM," but, hey, we're not picky here!:p)

Most people would laugh if you said the civil war reached Europe. Here, in 1864, during the Ameircan Civil War, the USS Kearsarge sinks the confederate raider CSS Alabama off the coast of France. France was allied with the Confederate States of America and frequently ran union blockades -- on both sides of the Atlantic! -- to get much needed essentials to the rebs who, for practical purposes, were otherwise cut off from international sea trade.
