Hot Rods Got another Tudor and now want to chop it

You like that color scheme, I see. Can't wait to see what ends up being take out. Are you running fenders, or no?

Gotta be honest, I want five. The blue one above is looking really good.
When I look at this at four inches, it just tells me five would be better.
However, at 6 foot tall, space will be a little of an issue.

No fenders on this one, and no channel.

 

I dont know how much this chop is, found the pic on here somewhere, maybe 6"?

 

Go 5" WITH fenders... that's my take. That blue car looks much meaner than the primered 3"er.

 

How much did Mitch take out of this one? I think it looks perfect.

 

Mitch bought that one from one of my buddies. It was already chopped but I really think it was 5". It looks dead on with the blue one, pictured above.

The one harv posted I bet is 6" +

I REALLY like the 4" look! Without a channel, I think that's perfect!

Might be what I do as well, but mine will have fenders. Might go conservative and stick with 3".....

 

I did this one back in the 70's 4 1/2" I thought it was perfect. If you are going fenderless I would go 5" but no less than 4 1/2"

 

I already welded up the holes for the fender braces and ditched the headlight bar etc.
This one will stay fenderless. But, I really think looks wise, that blue one can't be beat.

If I was doing it all on the frame the tudor came with, I would leave the fenders.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong Joe, but didn't you own this A' before?

 

Yes, good memory.
Traded it for 57 ford 300 2dr post. Then that to glenn for the 64 and on and on.
Then last week it was on Cl so I got all excited and traded with a little scratch back into it.

Made a little more progress

Some puckering going on and some old body work revealed.



This side did much better. I do think it would have been better to slice the bottom and bring it out to match the top rather than how I did it. Hindsight





Not a great pic, but most of you guys know of the taper issues with these. This is how I dealt with it.



And after a few tacks, the plane of the post is now stright. In the pic the door frame looks jacked up. The top and bottom aren't attached with tacks yet so they are sagging a little in the pic.

 

Not much progress to report.
Health problems with our newest has us sidelined for a few days.

 

Please tell me the the body is on the chassis you plan to use or something. Just a believer in doing it that way. Hope all goes well.

 

It is not, it is on two sticks of 2" tubing 1/4 wall so it is not flexing on saw horses or something if that is what you meant. The subrails / frame is flat so that is what I went with to support it. The steel is on a 4' by 4' roll around table then the body is on the steel.
Four inches is four inches I figured. The passenger door was a little tweaked to begin with so I am sure I will need to adjust with the blocks of wood accordingly.

Comparing all the cars in this thread, the 3" chops look best, 4" is OK, 5" is too much, 6" looks absolutely ridicilous, like squashed bug...

 

Well it's off to the paint shop now!

Thanks guys, I was able to sell the chassis and rear fenders so far.
Still have the glass fronts.

4" is good but 5" is just mean looking. Or a real suttle two inches.

 

Just learning to post pics and thought I would throw mine up ther. I chopped it 4.5 inches all the way around.
