I heard you guys are into old hot rods...HA!

This car was stashed behind about 25 engines/blocks, a 4 ton table, in between a couple Buicks, and under some tin acting as shelter for the last 30 or 40 years. We spent a few hours digging it out and with a little prodding we got it fired up.

This is about a third of the pile of iron we had to move....

    Bird's eye view....

Got all the iron outta the way...

Might as well take a few pics while Bryan climbs off the van body...

Real hot rod's really do have spider webs...

First time since the 70's you could walk all the way around it...

    I look quite happy, don't I?

    Already pulling wheelie's!

Put it by this giant super charger so I could give it a bath...

Propped the grill on it to get a looksie...

Wooden interior... Green-flake wheel should shine up nicely.

After a quick hosedown... I love that GREEN!!!

    Needs a little body work...

    Dig those bitchin' motor mounts!!!

    ...

Plans are to get it safe and sound, get the body mounted properly, and drive it. This car is too cool to be making any major changes.

We don't plan on changing anything major. May replace the Ford 3 speed with a LaSalle unit. Other than cleaning it up better and making it mechanically sound you 're basically seeing the "finished" product.

Is that a slant window cowl and doors, with a sport coupe rear end?

Wicked! Reminds me of the coupster I found years ago, wood dash and all. Yours has a lot cooler shit on it though. I bet it's also not the only gem in that yard, looks like a hemi in the pile and some sporty car behind you in the 3rd pic.

I'd say that hearing the Olds come to life was the highlight of my day.

Giving the crank a turn led to hooking up a battery, which led to bumping the starter. I then pulled the plugs off the headers for good luck. Showed good oil pressure so we Mcguyver-ed some fuel down the carbs, played with the timing and ignition, cranked on it a few times and she fired up. Ran pretty well, but the carbs all need re-built, wiring needs replaced, fuel system... brakes... tires... etc. It'll work better with rebuilt carbs and without funnels and brooms as parts of the fuel system.

Neat thing to see when we pulled the plugs was "STD" stamped on the pistons.

Didn't try the clutch or brakes because there is literally dust in the master cylinders. The rear tires hold air and the banjo rear rolled nice and smooth. Tranny seems ok but its most likely going away in favor of a LaSalle unit. It seems as though someone was putting this thing together in the 60's and was nearly there, but gave up. Rumor is the car was parked in 1974-ish.

What's up with all these vintage tin and parts sitting around? I see some stuff there that should be given a second chance at life..

That's a cool find, I love that you're gonna clean her up and just drive it. I can't wait to see a video of you roasting some hides in a truly classic rod!

  24. I might be in the minority here but I think you should not take the lazy way out. Tear it down and build a decent hotrod. Yes, it will require more effort but in the end you will enjoy it more. Use it as a base for building what you want. The crappy old barn find/wreckingyard find is a little played out. We as a society have been so used to instant gratification that we lack true effort in acquring acknowledgement from our peers. Especially when the vehicle in question has no true historical revelance or significance. Just saying you are going to get it running and roll with it is just the easy way out. I would be more impressed if you said you were going to restore it to it's former glory.(Whatever that was)This is just my opinion since you posted it on a public forum. Now I might get bagged for it, that's ok, but there has been so much of this lately I just had to say something. Just because something is old and crusty does not make it cool. Make it your own. It has massive potential. I look forward to your rebuild and good luck.

Yeah man, third picture, I was so excited by the pics of the rod that I didn't check. Could be Jensen, could be fiat, could be siata, could be Ferrari could be fiberglass mess on a ford chassis......it's a rad yard, looks like they used to be when I was a kid.

Man I love those triple carbs revealed under the tin.......
