looks like it's had a hefty impact at the top of the driver's side A-pillar?

I want to thank Old School HAMBer Muttley for finding this picture. I was the 2nd owner of this all steel Willys. We raced it through the late 60's, sold it, and don't know were it is now.

If anyone has other pictures of this car, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Dick M.

I don't really know. Maybe some HAMBers can help us out. Here are a few more shots of the car if that will help. Dick M.

I am no expert but have seen an bunch of Willys over the years and I have never seen that filler panel before. It's not a for a radio or any others I have seen and its a 41 for sure!

I was looking at the second picture after my post and noticed the upper chrome strip is also different. The lowers are 41's but the upper is wider but rounded like a 41. The 42's were wider but flat, not at all like other 41's so this is also very different. I have seen so many differences in Willys over the years so nothing suprises me but these items are a first for this Willys guy!

  17. Seems like what ever was left over got used up in some way (example:lower tail lights on '39 nose cars, that would eventually have belt line lights). Perhaps the reverse happened here, and they ran out of dash trim for '41's, but were in to '42 production already, and needed to get the last '41's out the door! Always fun to speculate! Here's one...I have a 37-38 glove box door that is cast, not stamped...where did that come from???

  18. I have one of those 39's with the 38 taillights. And they were definitely factory installed

I saw this on someone emails (maybe on Cdr M.G. Brattland's site). I thought someone would have more information on it; owner and location. It's a beautiful 40 Willys PU. If already posted, I apologize.

American Idle is my car. The color isn't stock but it was planned to look like it could be. I am an old pinstriper and have done many classics. One thing in common was beautiful colors and great color color harmonies. No primary colors that "tire" the eye. I don't know why the new car makers can't figure that out. Same reason they all look alike I guess.
My car has a blown (471) SBC and a 200r4 transmission. You are very observant in noticing the '41 trim.....it just looks better as does the rear bumper with "AMERICAR".

I am well aware of using up old parts on the new runs but that dash panel makes no sence to me. Its stamped different and they went thru the trouble of making two chrome strips on each side of the raised part. If you have ever tried to restore those chrome strips you know they are a real special piece. Your cast door is a new one also, i've only seen stamped steel. Strange........

Thank you John for your nice remarks. The car is very hard to photograph to get the color right. I'm an artist (painter) and find photographing close color harmonies in my paintings very frustrating. see www.leonardwren.com I've noticed the prevailing trend has been toward brighter colors and more shiny stuff and consequently it all begins to look the same. Many cars in the thirty's and early forty's had beautiful soft colors and they seem to be overlooked by today's car builders. Thanks again for your attention and comments.

Here is my 1942 Coupe. Pretty much all original, a repaint 30 or so years ago.
