This years Mooneyes was very disappointing. We arrived at 11:30am and found the normal entrance block off by the police. Traffic was directed down the street lined up with no U-Turn signs that went on forever. Once we were able to make a u-turn there was two lanes back up for miles. The inner lane was allowed to enter the parking lot, the other lane were waved off to go back to the freeway were we found no entrance for cars just a foot traffic gate. After sitting in traffic for an hour we found that we were left out. Irwindale Speedway employees were useless directing people to additional parking, they were useless letting people know the parking lots were full. It was a joke. We parked a few miles away and walk to Mooneyes. Once in my 9 year son and I walk the car show. I took pictures of the few cool cars among the rat rods, bikers, 60-70`s vans and lowriders. The parking inside was a joke it was very unorganized the way the cars were parked. The nice thing about this year was the amount of beautiful woman walking around. And the drag racing of course. Almost every car pop wheelies so my son had fun watching the cars race. The vendors were great too. The crowd is always wild and rough. Lots of drinking and people smoking weed. Its not hard to avoid trouble just need to keep your eyes open.

1st set of pixs is pretty gals, 2nd set is cool cars.

Kool - Thanks. your complaints are all too common for this show. if someone knows whoever from MOONEYES runs this show needs to let him/her know of the problems. maybe need to move show to different location, or have a cut off for the number of rides allowed in to show. plus, they need to hook up with a car club(s) to help run things.

all I needed to see to be happy was signs saying lot full and additional parking this way. Where i was directed to go the entrance was blocked and the Irwindale parking staff were ignoring us in cars asking where to park. Seeing cool cars is a gamble like any car show, this year the majority were ratrods, vans, bikers, and low riders. but in a few weeks is Grand Natioanls in Pomona.

I have the same taste! Sadly they are few and far between in Australia!

Thank god you actually got some shots of the cars though without every silly girl who thinks they are a pinup "modelling" in front of them (jaded much?)

That event needs to be move to a bigger place. Like Pomona Raceway for next year, with the right connection, a one day event, it could be done. Then maybe at Fontana too? I don't thing so.

So my take is just have a cut off time for saving spots, make modern cars park outside (bagged dually in the show area really guys?) and have a person in charge to make people park in spots. My first Moooneyes show wasn't such a cluster f#ck but then again that was 7 years ago when I moved out here. My wife made a comment about her going to the one in Santa Fe Springs before the move and it being better ran and they were out of spots when more than 50 cars showed up.

The gals holding hands are the best ones, as usual to many chubby checkers denting fenders, and concrete in their high heels dressed as a "pin up" girl/

We got there at 8 or 9 due to some belt issues on one of the guys car.
it was packed then, they directed us to reg parking, and everyone in the club had pre reg. There where many people that got there early to block off to many spaces with tents and things. One guy told us to go the other way, we got there and the dude at the gate said there is nothing, we went in moved cones and had great space for our cars.

I didnt even get to see all the cars there. it was a range from horrible hack jobs, to amazing customs and restos.

    The drags was great.

Saw some fights from a couple well known car guys (wont mention)

Honestly, I had an amazing time with the guys in our club, BBQ, beer, laughs, getting ideas for future custom work, seeing some old friends havent seen in years.

They probably should of had better gate staffing, but they shouldnt move it, as its mooneyes, and at a legendary dragstrip.

Legendary dragstrip? That ain't the real Irwindale. The fighting seems to be a yearly thing. It's the only show I've ever really seen brawling.

I disagree, the last 4 years I’ve gone and never seen such a mess with parking, I’ve arrived both early and late and have always been able to get in and park on the circle track. and this year was a shortage of quality cars. I disagree with the idea that Mooneyes has outgrown Irwindale but they have outgrown visitor parking.<O:p</O:p<O:p</O:p

The first year it was at Irwindale, they had staff directing you where to park. The one fight I saw, both parties were escorted out. Back in 2010, their flyer said, "No Saving Spots" and they enforced it. When I arrived, a group had strung yellow tape and staffer was pulling it down, telling the club of the "no saving space" rule. This year, so far, was the worst year for organizing.

    Close, but no cigar Bobo...........

Back when Ed was still alive, and when the show was held at the store, before egos replaced iron, none of the silly shit people are bitchen 'bout in this post happened! Just as it happened in Paso, as soon as it tried to be all things to all people, the end was near:(

Mooneyes is like a trip to Venice Beach... Lots of weirdos, freaks and attention seekers. Plenty of losers and drunks. Mucho bad art and cheap hustlers. The stink of overflowing porta cans and rivers of piss near every fence. Trash and beer cans covering the ground. Spiked with some real good friends, nice cars and So Cal weather. I go. I'll probably go again. But, admit it, it's more the circus than a serious car show.

The above doesn't mean I don't dig the show. But, that's what I warn first timers about it.
