How do you guys get so good at this stuff? where would someone start if they wanted to learn how to do this? is there a basic starter kit that you could buy to get going? Amazing work!

I love those carburetor panels! Very cool.

Not to say the other pinstriping posted above isn't also VERY nice work. I'm glad to see so many talented pinstripe artists here on the HAMB.

I just hung around the wrong folks...

Get a brush and some one shot. Do a little research- watch videos, etc... have something to practice on, and go for it! Practice makes perfect Brent!

My older brother started striping in the mid '50s (and earned a good living slinging a brush for the better part of 40 years). As a little kid I idolized him and by the time I was in the 6th grade I new and understood the basics...not to be confused with knowing the techniques or even being worth a shit.... I've striped off an on since then, often leaving it alone for years at a time before picking it back up.

Aynway....I remember my brother talking about learning to stripe one time long ago. His ongoing response to the questions was always the same...
"It only takes about ten minutes to learn how to stripe but it takes the rest of your life to master it."
I always thought it was just a bullshit answer but as time went by I came to see it as truly profound.

10 minutes may be a bit optiministic;)but the truth is it really is pretty simple to get the basics.

getting good is where the work comes in as the learning never stops.

I can't remember how many times I striped my car, wiped it off and did it again.
I used to stripe VW bugs for free because they have so many style lines and curves to follow.

    Practice, practice, and more practice
