  13. Sorry for the poor quality pic, but it is a screen-shot taken from an old 8mm "home" movie. The carrier is delivering new "shoebox" Fords to Fred Sayre Motor Company in Ripley, WV. Interesting to note the cover on the car. Look closely above and to the rear of the car on top and you can see the neon and porcelain Ford oval sign that now resides in my garage. It was given to me many years ago by Mr. Sayre prior to his death. I would love to have one of the cars from that shipment!

Boy! it was real good to see these pictures, they brought back a bunch of memories. My Pop was a car hauler for Associate Transport based next the Ford plant in Hazelwood Mo. for 25 years.

I've seen a COE, but this is really a Cab right over the engine. The cab has no hood at all! There is a windshield in the firewall for god sakes. Is this common or just on haulers like this to save tractor space? I just had never seen this before.

This one is like that, too, and it's another "Convoy Company" truck so maybe they built these custom?

On another forum, "Hank's Truck Forum", a Mr. Rob Archer, a forum administrator, said "The Convoy tractor was apparently built in their own shops."

This wooden trailer looks a little sketchy. Must have been a white-knuckle drive and delivery!!

  23. I just watched the movie Real Steel (I think thats what it was called lol) Its a movie about robot fighting. Hugh Jackman was driving a truck that had the windows down low like that too. I think they even had wipers on em. You could see their feet in the windows. I had never seen anything like that. I guess they were down there for helping see where you are on the road?

The IH truck with the low windows was a factory truck called the Sightliner, the idea being that a driver could see what was directly in front of him.
Trucks like the convoy truck were shop builts in order for the complete rig to comply with different state length laws and to get the maximum usage of what length they had.
The Diamond T with the wooden rack set up was a way to haul cars back to home and then the lumber was sold when taken apart, after dropping a load off at the orginal destanation.
