I wouldn't buy it if I were you. You don't need the frame, fenders just the body. For 3500.00 you could get a nicer body to start with for what your going to do.

around here for 3500 you get a roof with some rusty lower panels attached to it.

I would have to be pretty desperate to go $1000 for that pile. And before you ask there are two or three a short distance from here that are much nicer and more complete.

    I noticed them too..

  12. Exactly. Show me where I can buy that for $1000-$1500 right now so I can buy a dozen of them, paint them with Rustoleum, and flip them for $4000 a shot. I think some people still think it's 1985. Or they're these clowns who see a car with all the paint baked off and gone to surface rust and think it's junk, who would see the same car with a brushed on paint job a week later and think it's a great project.

If it has a deck lid and the subrails in the body are good, it doesn't need too many patch panels, it should bring at least $2500. Maybe more, given it's a coupe. Title is only relevant if they're hard to get in that state. Missing deck lid, deduct the cost of that. The rest depends on an up close inspection of the lower parts of the body versus the cost of any patches you have to buy to repair it.

Although, you might also want to deduct the cost of hiring a pro to fall that tree, probably at least a couple hundred there.

And the chassis value will vary depending on if it's stock or has been upgraded already.

Surface rust? Did you look at his pics? Every body panel is rusted through on the lower end, so it will probably be full of rust up all the seams as well. If you have any experience with an A you will know how those bolted/spotwelded seams love to swell and bend when they are full of rust. Lots of problems that are not an easy fix.

And the chassis has been laying in the dirt for as long as it takes a tree to grow. Do you think it's really "upgraded"?

David, walk away. That is not a good buy. I bought my 30 coupe for 2g, I drove it in the shop pulled the body and kept the frame while returning all the running gear. Oh I got a title to.

  15. And questionable front cross member. It is not likely that the front cross member will survive the tree falling/being removed from the tree that has grown around it.

I would start around 1,500 and want to stay pretty close to that.

I'd offer a thousand bucks and take the tree down and leave it bucked up for firewood for the owner.

This summer I sold 2 A coupe bodies to HAMBers. One was in just about the same condition as the OP’s and I let it go for $1200. The other was a cherried out body with paperwork for $5000.

He's full of it. Keep looking.

  20. Good move. I don't see 3500 there either. It will still be there when he dies and you can get it then for a few hundred..:p

  21. What, you think people didn't convert cars to hydraulic brakes in the 40s and 50s? That's not an upgrade?

I've sold worse for as much or more.

I think the only problem here is the seller needs to cut the tree down and roll the thing in for a quick and dirty coat of primer or flat black paint. I had one AA I couldn't even get a silly offer on, I swapped the cab to a frame that had been a coupe, put a bed on it and some axles I picked up along the way, painted it (with a brush), and it took all of 30 days to sell - coincedentally for the same $3500 that was my asking price. I put a ton of bracing in the cab to hold it together for the trip to the new owner. No title, either.

Anyone here got a decent 5W coupe body for sale for around $1500? If so, I'm interested. Seriously.
