My 1960's moon on my 32 Coupe Doyle Gammel's My Anglia one during the restoration in 2009 One of the most famous one, Tom McMullens
Moon tanks look very cool.Of all those illustrated how many are actually in use and if so what are you using them for. Thanks Roger
Mine is an early Moon tank. The tag says Moon Automotive Equipment, 10935 S. Bloomfield ave. Norwalk. It has the small Creighton Hunter roadster tag as well. It uses Eelco brackets and I use it as a coolant recovery tank. Mick
This one is on a 32 I built some time back. This car was really low. Funny how I look back at it now, I would change a few things. I wanted the headlights tucked in tight at the time, now I would move them up and out a little. John
Moon Tank is used as my radiator overflow. The spreaderbar is actually a handicap shower handle from Lowes Home Improvement store.
I bought my Moon tank at Pomona swap meet back in the 90s for $15.00 with the spinner cap. Those were the days... Billet was king and no one wanted that old junk
To me the Moon tank is such an iconic piece I had to get one as soon as I had the roadster. Now I'm trying to find a way to make it functional. Since I don't need an auxiliary fuel tank, I'm thinking either use it for overflow to replace what's there now, or if I ever decide to do a traditional ( )twin turbo roadster I would use it for holding meth/water for spraying into the intake for charge air cooling. I got the Moon brackets to mount it on the spreader bar.
Any of you guy's have an idea of when Moon went from the spring style to the solid ring style holders for their tanks? My tank is about 15 years old now and uses the solid style which was what was available through them when i bought it, but i see what look like old tanks with equally old looking solid ring's as well. Tony
The tank I posted above I got recently from Moon and it came packaged with the spring style holders but I also got the solid ring ones since I like those better.
I used some 14 ga. stainless, drilled the lightning holes and the radius for the spreader bar and bent it 90 degrees and welded it up. Mine will be used on the street. I will fill it threw the moon tank then it will be pumped into a 14 gallon tank inside the car behind the rear seat. I didn't want to cut the body for a gas door. The rear frame rails are bobbed.
This is my fake non - MOON tank on my '65 HEMI Valiant, it is a Buetsch Racing Ent. special... my Dad and I made it from an old Hamm's tapper, we epoxied two aluminum discs we cut from some stamped water heater tanks, bored a hole on the mill for the filler neck which we also epoxied, and tappped a couple of hole for some fake fittings with lines... Thanks Brian and Gordy
