I need to buy some tapered bungs for early ford tie rod ends. I think they are 7 or 7.5 degree tapers. I've run out of pieces to cut them out/off and surely somebody sells them..........I hope.

    Speedway has them.

  3. I got mine from Speedway Motors. HRP

  4. Just make them.

  5. Buy a tapered reamer once and you can have it for life and make as many as you need.

Said he ran out of material to make them out of!

  7. Pretty sure he meant things to cut them off of. Like spindle ends and such. Its a LOT cheaper to buy bar stock than bungs.

It might be cheaper to buy bar stock but unless you buy the reamer, the bar stock doesn't do you any good. The bungs are only $3-4 at Speedway.

I think we need a tutorial on how to use a reamer.

crminal, you just blew my mind with that photo. Whats the mount on the frame look like?

  11. True, but he also said, "early ford tie rod ends". (forgive me if that was a Bevis reference) ;):p

Hillbilly4008, nothing I came up with, to give credit where it is due; www.ctaulbert.com

Takes a regular type mount, like a later ball joint, but with an early ball that fits that tie rod end.

Is he looking for the weld bungs to go in the wishbones OR is he looking for the bung that has a 7degree taper to use on tapered tie rod ends? Fuck me I'm lost

  14. Well, all the choices are out here for him to pick from when he comes back;)

He said: "I need to buy some tapered bungs for early Ford tie rod ends. I think they are 7 or 7.5 degree tapers." No mention of wishbone bungs which wouldn't need a specific taper specified anyway, so I'd interpret his statement to mean a bung which accepts the tapered stud on a Ford tie rod end.

the problem i've found with the ones speedway sells is they're not deep enough, especially when using the larger truck tierods.

Anybody know the co$t of a 7 degree ream? Couldn't find 'em in Speedway catalog...

  19. Take the bar stock, drill hole for the bolt/nut size, cherry the bung, take a old tie rod end, hammer/press it into the steel and you have a bug. Dont need a reemer as you just forged it to size. I can have enough made for a car by the time you get off the phone ordering them

turn the compound on a lathe to 7 degrees and bore away? Thats what I've always done and not have a problem.

Next time you want to know where to buy something just ask how to make them.
