building this for a customer. 31 Studebaker president sedan. car was originally modified with some crude fabrication in the late 80's? either way i cut out all the old and made new. chassis calls for a spring behind 4" dropped, cross steering,2 link rear with pan hard, air bags, boxed stock rails, tube x members old chassis pressure washed.squared up and leveled.cross braces installed. box plates started. new fab'd x member. this frame is about 2 " wider then a typical a frame,so i had to made the x member. it will get some lighting/speed/coolness holes installed and more structure added to it when it disassembled for powder coat. old vs new x member
rea link bars. 2x2 1/4 wall. 1 1/8 adjustable rod ends. over kill yes! start of tube work dimpled hole bracket
thanks for the good words fellas, here's the only pic of the body i have now.ill post some more when i start the floors.
Lookin good Ryno, classy old car. The Uniy body looks great with the red tint. Rock on bro, ~sololobo~
I've got a pair of front fenders and one rear fender for that car I might part with if you need them. I;m building a 31 model 54 5 window coupe and am not using the fenders.
thanks for the offer, but at this point i think he is going fender less and we are channeling the body. he does have the fenders and running boards along with the brackets, as this car was complete when he purchased it, if you run across anyone that may need this stuff.
Ryno, The chassis work in jam up friend. Real top notch. Looking at the pic with the body and the parking brake set on your uni-body the stud just dwarfs it. I know it is an illusion but it just makes your little ford look like a toy.
This is a build that grabs my interest. My Stude coupe is a 31 also and plans for it are chop/channell/fenderless/wishbone suspension. Anxious to see more pics. Good luck
got a little further along with the rear suspension work, and added some more tubing. rear 2 link pan hard mounts, frame side. link side. i make a 2 piece insert. first section is welded to the coupler,a nd stuck inside of the box tubing, the outer plate is flush welded to the end of the tube. i plug weld from the sides in inner brace. rear x member / upper shock tower.
Overkill is usually perfect! It's nice to see something different like this, making the old Studebaker into an awesome hot rod.
You wouldn't have any photos of what the floor and substructure in that body looks like, would you? I just need an idea. Mine has none; I think it's the same body shell - it's a year newer, but a Rockne.
thank you very much there was no floor in it or structure, when i got it, sorry.but i will be building some soon! thanks todd, we will be talking soon..
It certainly looks better than mine; will be looking forward to how you address the body wood and so forth.
