Projects 1961 Biscayne 409 Super-Stock Build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BSL409, Oct 6, 2012.

  1. That's going to be a real sweetheart. I've had a handful of '61 2 door hardtops since the first one in '64. But the last '61 was a Belair 2 door post I put together in the early 90's.

    Good luck,

    Charlie

Did you have a hard time installing the back glass? I talked to a guy that had same car & he said it was a bitch to get in.

Like your Biscayne. I have had mine since the mid 80's. No racing; just fun on the street.

Dig this build and the 348/409 engines. Ive wanted a set of "W" valve covers to hang on my garage wall for a long time now. Scored a set today at the Indy swap meet that were chrome but a little rough. Only made it two booths away and a guy talks me out of them for a profit! Now I'm kicking myself for selling them! Knucklehead!

I'm sure you're well aware of Aubrey Bruneau, and his 61, 409/425 Bubble Top S/S car. But, for those HAMBERS who are'nt, go to BruneauPerformance.Ca (a Canadian site) for his story, products, and cars. Butch/56sedaqndelivery.

    She's sooooo fine....!!!!

    My first car was a '61 rag top.... red w/white top - red interior ..... 283 - 4 speed.

When I bought it in 1966 it still had wide whites & fender skirts (still have the skirts...ha!)

I was in the Army & bought it when I was on leave after coming back from Korea ..... after my 30 day leave I drove it to Philadelphia and had it shipped to Germany. After serving my time there I had it shipped back to the States. Ended up keeping it until 1972.

Unlike your car my '61 really rusted..... The Pennsylvania Winter weather & road salt took its toll on the body. First place to go was the top of the front fenders over the headlights (which was already repaired once when I bought it).... with lots of other to follow over the years.

Was a great 1st car. Surprised they sell for so much today. Back in those days the '61's always sold for less than the more popular 62-64's.

Past few years I have watched the 409 Club race at the Gasser Reunion at Thompson Dragway.... they put on a really good show.... proving that the "409's are STILL ".... So Fine..." !!!!!
