Not to sound like an idiot here but what is the guage on the right in the fire wall that says AIR??? Is that an air speed guage? Oh and beautiful truck by the way!
I really dont know,its not connected to anything. Maby a "la cucaracha" air horn was THE SHIT in the 50s and you had to be sure to always have airpower
Some work on the steering box. The old F100 box was badly mounted as you can see. Bought a F1 box and did my own flange. Also got rid of the ugly u-joint.
Love the car of course. It was fun buying and driving it for sure. I think it was built in Fresno, and later ended up in the Oakland area. Way kool!!
That's quite a car and that it survived in it's original rod appearance this length of time is quite a fete in it's self. I like what you are doing in that you are making it safe to drive and removing haphazard scabbed on things and in essence doing what should have been done in the first place rather than taking short cuts that were taken back when.
Excellent old RPU. Finding it almost completely in "as built" condition is a miracle in itself. Glad your going to preserve the origional build (with exception of safety issues) as this one displays a big portion of our "hot Rod" roots . Frank

Hey John, your work sure looks good. Can't blame you for taking that channel iron off the steering box. Back in the day they used to Arc weld, and that stuff was brittle. I grew up in Fresno and if your thinking the car might have been built there. I'd be happy to ask around. Also as nice as your truck is. It was probably in a car club. Rich.....
I think the F100 box was put in later,at one time there might have been a steering box on top of the frame bacause there is a hole in the left fender. I dont have any history on the car exept for the old photo and the fact that it is from CA, but if you ignore a few parts that have been added last 6-7years or so nothing is newer than 40s stuff as far as i can tell so i think this is 50s build or earlier.

Made a new transmission mount today. The old one was bad and the gearbox was solid mounted to it without any rubber. It also took alot of space so i scrapped it. Wanted some old stuff and especially ford stuff so i bougt a beam from a fellow hot-rodder that is for the original mecanic brake system. Cleaned all the mounts and dirt off.
I dident want to overwork the transmission mount so it fits the rest of the car. Tryed to make the welds look old Used a flathead engine mount kit for the transmission mounts.
Started on the new plates for the split wishbones today. A friend of mine shaped the pieces to mount the tie rods in.
Got the mounts welded today,a friend of mine is a bad ass TIG welder. Also started to change the angle on the whishbones,i probobly will have to adjust them alittle more when the car is on the ground to get the axle degrees right.
Mounted the wishbones today and tacked the mounts to the frame to se if everything worked. First pic is of the old mount.
Had to raise the motor mounts so a friend of mine helped me to do some new bolts and raisers. Now the engine and gearboxs is mounted and fitted as they should.
Started to make a new bracket for the pedals and master cylinder. The pedals are 39 Ford. The old bracket was badly done and not strong enough. I used the old bracket as a templet for the new bracket because i want it to look like the old one dit,only stronger. Also made a support bracket that goes back to the transmission mount.
