I used a HF 1/2 "D" handle drill to power mine. $28.00 on sale. It drives a GM power window transmission to get the 90 degrees and for the gear reduction.

This is absolutely true. The way I did mine, the reinforcement was all mounted on one side of the plate however and I assumed he was doing the same. Sorry for any confusion.

How about a 12V. windshield wiper motor and an HO train transformer.

heres a transfer box adaptor i made to my floor jack allows me to lift it square to gearbox then slide it on.

you may notice most of my tools are for landrovers.

even got pic of boss in one, not allowed to do anything without her helping.
she is actually a fair way from jack just looks like she is next to it.

also a pic of extension top for drill press from scrap pce of steel chequer plate from a skip, and some modified welding clamps to use with it welds have been cleaned up since pics taken.

Not to rain on your parade, but a wiper motor may spin it, but not under load..

  9. Can you reverse, and control speed?

  10. I saw a similar set up, where a homemade foot pedal operated a bike cable
which in turn pulled the trigger on the drill for variable speed. There is a video somewhere on you tube that shows it in operation.

If you wanted to dedicate the drill to the roller, you could probably get inside
and wire a remote reversing switch. We used to put remote switches on the big 1-1/4" Black and Decker drills we used on our shop made truck frame drills.

I would use something much cheaper than the actual Mag Light brand flashlights. At most tool stores or building supply places, auto parts stores etc., you can pick up cheap LED flashlights with 7 or more LEDs in them.

They run on 3 AAA batteries and are shorter than a typical Mag Light.

And the best part is that sometimes they are less tan $5.

  16. How does that wiper transmission hold up ?

My bead roller has some huge motors and gear boxes on it.
    It will roll 11gauge too.

Treadmill motors are great for stuff.

It has held up so far. Like I said if I had to do it again I would do different. But if it doesn't break, I won't fix it.

I bought a Woodward bead roller because I read the body was thicker than the HF roller. It may be, but it even flexes bad when rolling 22g sheet metal. Time for some reinforcing.

Now of course these rollers just come with a few sets of dies and the bead rollers aren't meant to do designs really (I guess you could replacing the bottom die with a skateboard wheel) but I was playing around to see what kind of radiuses I could get and this was the first piece I tried on. 22g steel.

Now I need to get this thing stronger and make some patch panels.

I posted this in the "wanted" section if anyone interested in giving it a shot.

    ---------------------------

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in making me an adapter sleeve for mount a Grant style wheel to a Chinese (HF/Woodward) bead roller.

It would have to a sleeve with a set screw and an stg wheel adapter plate welded on the end.

It should be pretty simple but I don't have the equiptment.

I really don't want to ruin the crank handle in case I want to use it later.

There may be a small market here for these adapters since many own these econo. rollers.

That one picture is just messed up. I don't know why you would not fix it before posting.

Found out a member here makes an adapter for the HF model. I just have to verify my Woodward's shafts are the same size as the HF.
