I was going to try and find a pic of this and post it- forgot that Doc has it now! Pretty early piece, I was just getting going painting then, '95 or '96 maybe? I arranged for Norm to sell prints of this back when he hurt his hand to help with his medical bills, kind of weird that the hand is stitched on in the picture. I made him a Frankenstein monster in the painting because when I was a little kid I thought that's what he looked like in the old LIFE Magazine photo.

He was a role model of how to not take life too seriously that few of us can measure up to- Gonna miss him...

Well, I'm working on a small Norm bit of artwork and may have it done soon to get in this show but it may have to be in next weeks show. This is one from this week that I did get done with. 20"X24" Acrylic.

I'll throw in a small tribute to Norm with one of my favourite pics taken on Norm's UK visit.

Norm discovers he wasn't the first to carve a skull........

The pic was taken in August 2006 at the 'Royal Standard of England' one of the oldest pub's we have here. Beer has been served there for 900 years so Norm was quite at home....

Since some of you know I do hand painted woodgrain, I thought I'd toss up a few examples. Not Norm related, unless an individual art form applies. His was clearly individual. Enjoy...

I love the "FrankenNorm". Norm was excited to see it at my Christmas party. He signed the back for me. This and Cherry Pie are my most favorite of Weezie's work.

  15. Fantastic woodgrain, Highlander - Sure looks dead nuts real to me. I sure would love to watch you work on that some time. Beautiful stuff - by far the nicest I have seen!

  16. Holy smokes Doc., I knew you had a great collection of all sorts of art, didn't realize you had that many Norm Skulls. Wow, awesome.

I Never met him but was really inspired by the man. Looking at pics of him in this thread and on one of those pics he appears to me like the sun...

so I quickly did this... Sun will never be the same...

Thanks bro. You're welcome to drop over on the next one. Some time between now and xmas I'll be doing a 33 Packard limo set in "Butt Walunut" with the standard elm trim. Something like 13-14 parts to that one:eek:

For those who don't already know, I do this with brushes. No hydro, no rollers, no decals, no silk screens. If I showed you the burl brush you'd call me a liar...until you watched it happen.

Hey Doc, one heck of a collection...I was fortunate enough to see a lot of your stuff "in the works" while visiting Norm at various times over the years. Here's a shot of the infamous walnut "trunk" or "box" that he built in late '74 or early '75 for my 32 Studebaker President...funny note: No one remembers me or the car, but always say "yeah I know that car - it's the one with the box on the back"! Also my two skulls and cane....He was a helluva craftsman and will be sorely missed........RIP old friend, Joe

...around here - I feel like an "also ran".

Thanks for the hat tip nonetheless....I loved Norm. Never saw a picture with him in it that didn't make me smile. There are very few people in the world with that kind of charisma.

  25. Awesome show so far, guys!

I really wanted to do something Norm related this week, but time just got away on me.:(

So, the best I could do was drag out this old piece I drew up about 12 years back when I was showing my Norm 'tribute' T-bucket. It's a board I made up like a fake magazine cover, incorporating other stuff I was doing at the time, or had planned for the future.

Marker, acrylic, and vinyl:eek: on board.

....at least it's got Norm's name on it!:D

    RIP Mr. Grabowski
