It would be a Great Choice! It's time for the obsolete little Steam Engine That Can't (Flathead Ford) to be eclipsed by the Chevy....again....and this time for good!

I had a complete 1955 265 I was going to put in my model A. I came across a 1957 283, rebuilt .030 over. It is real similar, no side mounts but does have a canister filter. I have a hurst mount for the front complete with the "U" shaped spacers. Power pak heads and a L79 cam. My Model A was built in the late 50's so this engine will be right at home. I looked for an early '55-'57 engine specifically to avoid the "belly button" stigma. The early one's were game changers like it or not. In '58'-'59 this setup would have made you "King Shit on Turd Island", lol.

I just picked up the '55 4bb dual exhaust version for my '29 Roadster build.
I will have my flathead in my '32 pickup.

From what I see and know so far....these little engines are very capable and a whole lot less expensive and parts are as near as your local parts supplier. Gotta love that!

I'll be looking for a couple of dressup items for it. Corvette finned staggard bolt valve covers and a '62 or so Corvette air cleaner if it will fit my Carter 4bbl.

This post should re-light some fires from days gone by.

  5. They do look good with the Corvette valve covers. This is in my '57.

Great!, now I'm really pissed at my self. Not only did I ditch one because no one wanted to buy it, then not buy it for really cheap, then not even for free!!!!!! some years back. Now one can make money renting one out.

  8. Not a 55, but a 265 none the less.

    Mine's a 56

    I'll be putting a 1956 265 4-barrel carb with 3 speed overdrive in my 30 A coupe on 32 chassis.
