Making a Metal 1938 Chevy Truck LH front fender

    Making a 38 truck front fender for my vendor display stand.


    First photo 24" x 30" 18swg sheet metal blank

    second photo after 4.5 hrs

    third photo after 6 hrs and ready to move on to next section

    Beautiful work. But it sure takes planning and forethought doesn't it. Be proud. Not many with this skill around any more. Another hard one to find is a craftsman who is a good metal body and fender repairs person using lead and the dollies.

    Sections 1-4 made,TIG welded together and metal finished.

    Beautiful work. Just curious, did the original have a standing seam on the underside running from the middle of the arch inward to the flange? My '37 LaSalles did and wondering if they (Fisher Body) still did that in '38.

    I toyed with that idea, but I didn't think it looked as smooth.

    total time to date for making the 4 sections and TIG welding together ;

    part /section 1 6.5 hrs
    part/section 2 6.75 hrs
    part/section 3 4 hrs
    part/section 4 4 hrs

    Tig welding 1,2,3 and 4 together 4hrs

    total to date 25.25 hrs
