Is anybody running there car with varc this weekend at Lawrenceburg? I wish mine was ready. I am a magneto away from being done. Was thinking of maybe taking my car for display if there were going to be others.

I might have an extra at Josh's. Give him a call. If there is one there feel free to use it. Josh is bringing the #49, #23, #10 and the #14 Granatelli KK2000 Offy.

Thanks ken, I have a little more work to do other than the mag. Throttle linkage, return springs, finish up the fuel lines etc. I wish I would have seen this on the burgs schedule earlier I would have pushed harder this summer to finish in time. Oh well I think I am going to bring it down anyway. It looks finished and would be fun just to bring it there with my family history at the burg. See you all down there!

Thank you so much, Jim. Dad and Dean Mast took the Howell cars to Pennsylvania and ended up staying a month or so. They had planned on just a couple races, but they were winning and making money. I remember Dad calling home and telling Mom to pack the car and come over for a few days (and bring Bob!). I loved those fast dirt tracks in central PA - it seemed like they raced 4 or 5 nights a week within just a few miles.

Side note: On this trip, Dean's daughter Shelley, who was Garaway High School's Homecoming Queen (Sugarcreek, Ohio) met a boy at the motel we were staying in. They were later married. He was very successful in his business and loved hockey - so they traveled to watch pro hockey. While flying over Lake Erie towards Canada to see some hockey, their plane went down and they were never found. As a 10 year old, I loved being at all the state fairs on the IMCA circuit with an 18 yr old homecoming queen!

This thread is amazing. Just when I think it's over for my dad's pictures, somebody posts another one. I remember the first picture I found on line of my dad (the one in my avatar), Dad said: "You won't find anymore, I wasn't that important." Thanks everybody.

This is an e-mail I received from my buddy Curt Grogan in response to my post above. Curt, you're the best:

"You won't find anymore, I wasn't that important." Thanks everybody.

Was at a racers reunion a couple weeks back showed Ray Lee Goodwin a picture you had took of him and posted on here (I stole it) Told him you took it and mentioned your dad, Ray Lee's responce was that Easter was one tuff sob to beat loved to go back there and race him.

    To me thats important.

Thanks to Jim C. for the following info: The #54 car started life as a 4-bar Trevis, but was nearly destroyed at Ohio Valley in the mid 60's. When Dad started driving the car, it had been converted to a springer front. So, I'm not sure if those mounts are original or not. Dad said he could do anything he wanted with this car. He won in this car with or without a cage, on dirt or asphalt, flat or banked. He also only drove this car for a couple years - what a shame. I'd love to have this old Trevis - it's like family.

(I had followed Roy for 3 laps and got a face full of mud.. When he slowed for a lapped car, I zipped around and gave him a spray...)

On the #54 rad. rod mts., the castor should remain the same it the nose dipped. It just became easier to mt. them on the same upright. Lazy builder.

Seeing the vintage cars run at the 'burg was a true delight. Especially seeing the GranCor Kurtis "Big Car" ride the cushion on those wire wheels and skinny knobby tires. Thanks to all those who brought cars, got them dirty, and put on a good show.

I took my camera, but got so involved in the moment, I forgot to take it out of the truck. Maybe someone has some photos they can post??

Video is good, gives a different and more exciting view, also shows how wide the 'burg's racing surface is. A lot of different grooves, which makes for great racing. Photos would show how great all of the cars really look.

Question: Can you explain why the top three finishers in the vintage races were caged, open wheel, cars???? LOL

Sorry I havn't posted here much in the last 6 months. But, as always you guys are doing great!

Here's some pics from Sat. night...
Blackie- once I got out there I couldn't resist running the cusion and in the fluff so those Knobbies would spray dirt and put on a show.. Not the fast way around, but I had fun. Was actually really suprised I lead the deal till past Half way! It was great fun, and good to hear an OFFY growl and howl at the Burg once again!!!

    ------------------

and then Sunday we took a few cars to a rented out test session at Moller Raceway park. It was nice to have open laps, with guys you can trust and no one telling you how, where, or what to drive.

We didn't even have a drivers meeting... wonder how we survived. :D:D

    Here's Two Videos:

1st one is me in the #23 Hart sprinter, first run out.. still a little track left. A couple good fun laps.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egMlJDRMUDs&feature=plcp

2nd is me again in the #23 chasing MIKE WHITNEY in the #49 Ellison Spl. Not much track left, but perfect for "playing".. Loose, and useless. I caught him, and we diced back and forth a few times. It was excellent.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWPKEmB8hFg
    ----------------------------------------------------------

    Enjoy!

Because those cars were probably still 50 years old? Come on guys, do you think seat belts and helmets are for cowards or little girls, too? Gary
