No it doesn't! Look at your birth cirtificate !

it's kinda like asking "why would you want a good looking woman, when there is so many ugly ones out there?":)

I don't know about the rest of you, but I choose an ugly woman so I didn't have to worry about other rodders while I was at work or in the garage !:) Especially those horny guys driving 32 Fords.

  6. Although I'm late to this party, here's my 2 cents ...... I like Model A's but I LOVE 32's!!!! Better proportions and styling, better body quality and safety with all steel construction, flush fitting doors and the gas tank in the rear instead of in the cowl. Much stronger frames with the first V-8 for mass production that could run 75+ mph stock. A Deuce looks beautiful right off the production line and a Model A needs to be worked on. The history of it's being the first hot rod that lives on to this day....... and on and on. Need I say more? Once you get them in your blood, you are addicted! I call it the Deuce Disease......and there is no known cure!

As Randy (Deuce Roadster) says "In Life, if you don't have at least a pair of Deuces you might as well fold your cards".

I like to think you need a "Full House"!:D

I may go against the grain here...but I like A's better. Yeah they lack many of the styling cues and refined looks of the Deuce, but there is just something about em that trips my trigger. A 30/31 is my Holy Grail. Has been since I was a kid, will be till I die...and hopefully someday between then and now I get to own one.

There are a few things that I'd tip my had to the 32s on, being an A fan; the frames, V8s, front axle, and grill shells. You don't see them (32s) swapped with A stuff, do you?

I'd take a full fendered 32 roadster in a heartbeat, as well as a 5w. But I don't pine away, wishing I had one. There's favorable stuff that a Model A has to hot rod its predecessors. Both my 26/27s will be running A chassis with bangers.

  11. SShhhh........I only showed you guys here on the HAMB......there can't be that many of us!

Bruce I wish I was but I'm trying.........

This is for the guys that didn't get it: Thertito [thur-tee-too]

  13. The Model A you have in the photo is not traditional completely different than any street rod that I can remember. It would be uncomfortable as hell to ride in. Rear tires over the top of the deck lid-- I guess it depends on what generation you live in. To me, it's out of proportion. Although, I do like the low look. I would prefer a look -- of a traditional street rod. NOW that's not horse shit!!!

Good to know I'm not the only guy who thinks it's lame to criticize Scott Miller's coupe..

    That thing rules hard. Period.

Ask John Lawson here in Fresno if there is any other car than the 32?

Am I taking Crazy pills or did this guy just tell me Scott's model A is not traditional?

Not only is that car traditional, it's period correct as well. And don't tell me they weren't channeling cars that hard back in the day. They were. And your right, it rides a little rough. It's a hot rod, so what.

It is very simple. The Flathead V8! The motor, it's the same reason why a Tri Five Chevy, GTO, and Cuda are high in popularity. It's why post 72 cars aren't as popular. Granted styling, conformity, and initial costs are also factors.

Styling aside, the '32 was the next in the line up of what evolved from the Model A. What makes it special is that the '32 was the first passenger car offered by Ford with a V8. So, given the time period (unless you could afford a bigger more expensive car that had a V8 or 12 or 16) the cheapness of Ford added to the promotion. Chevys and Mopars had an inline 6.
What adds to the lure is that Ford was cheap and parts interchanged for the most from 32-48. The frame was already set up for a V8 and if you had a later flathead it would just drop in with little fiddling.
Less parts (by design) then the Model A, rear gas tank, etc.
But I would say that if you were young and with little money and went to a scrap yard in post war america (or even pre-war) you could get a inexpensive 32 roadster (less metal so it was cheaper than a coupe) and swap the early flathead for a 59AB with speed goodies and have yourself a darn sweet lil hot rod.
Affordable power and adaptability and interchanging I would say was the key to the 32's success over the model A.
The Model A's didn't really change the chassis or styling much through the 4 years, grill changes, cowl (for 2 years) and fenders, - same frame, engine etc etc.

  28. I like all of the five window coupes better than the three window coupes. I would take a Model "A" vicky over a 32 coupe. I love 27,28 29,30.31.32,32,33,34,35, up to and including 1953 Fords. I also like the tri- five Fords and Chivies plus old Corvettes.

I think remembering the old days is my major problem and remembering the hoodlums that drove them. I enjoyed the hoodlums more than the rest of the kids in school-they were always up to something.
