I know this is just opinion, but I would like to hear others opinion. I have a nice 55 Bel Air post project, rust free & chassis is all done. Have a chance to trade it for a 40 Ford Coupe in about the same condition. Would you trade? Why or why not.
Now that is a quandary isn't it? Choose between two very popular cars. This is where YOUR choice depends on where your love lies...with Chevrolet or Ford? The cars are from 2 different worlds.
I personally would trade for the '40, but I love the older fords and have never been a big tri-5 fan. It all depends on your personal style though. Would you be happier in a '40 ford or a '55 Chevy? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I sold my 55 Chevy twice and just recently got it back for the third and final time. Sold it the first time because I wanted a different project that ended up being a nightmare and a total bust. Sold it the second time to try to save a bad relationship with my last girlfriend. She still walked. Just bought the 55 back in July, and I can promise you that I will never sell it again. Don't do it man.
The '55 Chevy can morph most any direction, the '40 Fords are usually just that unless it's a custom. Just depends on what direction you are heading...............
I would but the '40 is in my list and five fives are a dime a dozen. Ask yourself this are you bored with the '55 as in is it a stalled project? If that is the case the '40 is about in the same spot as the '55 and if it is nrew to you then you are not stalled on it yet.
Both are great cars & I can see your dilemma. Wanted a 57 Ford & I got one. Always wanted a 40 Ford coupe. Would I trade my 57 for the 40 all things being equal? Yes.
I own a '55 and a '40 is not on my top five cars list, but I would probably still trade. A '40 is still going to be more unique running down the street. It is hard to not love fenders and running boards. A key issue would be whether you ever intend to put anyone in the back seat. For me, putting kids in the back was a priority. Ironically, my Bel Air was in pieces for 18 years and wasn't completed when my kids were young, thus very few people have ever been in the backseat. Today, I would prefer the '40. If I had kids around (or coming soon), I would prefer the '55. Happy Motoring either way!
Bitch of a problem to have...40 coupe, one of my all time favorites since seeing Thunder Road as a kid. 55 post, ton of 'em around. Just one opinion.
I like 55's ,keep in mind that the coupe is a 2 seater. if you have family that wants to go keep the 55. 40 Coupe is on my list also.
If your really on the fence, let the economics dictate what you do. Grab a knowledgable car buddy, have him look over your car, then the '40 in question. Go home and look up the parts thy both need and guess how many hours of work you have to get each car where you want it to be, and pick the car that is closer and cheaper to get to what you want it to be. Someone showed me a trick recently, It may or may not be as effective for you as I think it was for me, Flip a coin, 55 heads,40 tails, flip it and just before it lands and before you even look. what did you hope it would be? Theres your subconscious answer, It doesnt really matter what the coin lands on. It also may not work If you already know the whole trick before hand. I just thought it was a regular coin flip to start with
I'd do the same, then again I still have my first car( '55 Chevy ) but I do like those '40s. Couldn't afford one though, so picked up a '46 Chevy instead
When I was young it was Pre-war Post-war cars. Pre-war always won. I have had a lot of 55 chevys, but never a 40 ford. I still have a couple 55 and yea I would trade one,but I'd put in a chevy motor.
